Demo and Full Game
So, I've wanted to buy this game for a while, and saw it on sale. I purchased the game, and then went to download the demo, but it only seems to want to full game. I've been told that the demo is worth play as well - did I just burn myself out of being able to play the demo?

Isn't a demo just a shorter version of a game?

i have the same question. totally disappointed :/ because it seems that the demo has content that the full game does not have :/

we just have to options:
1. forget the demo
2. create a second steam account

You're really dissapointed about not being able to play a *Demo*?

To my understanding, in this case, no.

#2, I believe, is technically against Steams ToS.

That's right, but i don't see another solution.

Just sayin'

The demo has completely unique content and should be played be everyone, ideally before playing the full game.

You can fix this by creating a new Steam account and downloading the demo logged into it, or just viewing your library if you already have it downloaded. Sucks, but it works. Enjoy!

Ok, so, if I don't want to create a second Steam account and don't already have the demo downloaded, am I completely out of luck?

(I've already had problems in the past with Steam Support due to having a second account.)

Yep, demo is definitely meant to be different from most demos. I could tell it was different than the game. It was pretty cool. I think I'll go and buy the real game now.

What if you uninstall it, will it give you the option for a demo. Go watch it on youtube if all else fails.

Actually, how do you do that? I had the demo already downloaded, but once I got the full game, the demo disappeared from my library, I only see the full game now. I even checked my steamapps folder and my "The Stanley Parable Demo" folder is now empty outside of a config and a text file.

Yep, pretty much the only known way to do it. You shouldn't get nailed by Valve, and if you like, you can just never use that account again afterward.

Cati, that's odd, but for most folks all of the files are still there. You might be looking in the wrong folder, fortunately. Try creating a new Steam account, be logged into the new Steam account, and view your library. It should reappear.

I've been there, got in trouble before. Don't want to go there again.

If worst comes to worst, you could see if there's a pirated version of it out there. It's not exactly illegal to torrent a free demo I guess.

Yes, you can get in trouble for torrenting something that is being distributed for free. Is it likely, no; but it is possible.

If you are truly concerned, you would not miss out on the experience too greatly by watching an LP of it. May I recommend Rev3Games' playthrough? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH1fA63YPE0

Thanks. I've contacted support and I'll shelve the game for now. If worse come to worse, I might see if I can have Steam refund the purchase.

I will also be contacting support about the demo being removed from my library. With the full game currently on sale, I'm sure this is also happening to others. The demo is a completely different experience from the full game. The demo might even be better. I should be able to access both from my library, and I'm not happy about Steam making its own decisions about which games to wipe from my computer.
