It was a very weird case of breaking the wall between Stanley/Narrator and the "outside world". So I wanted to know more about it.

So, any ideas on what it means? Apart from the obvious.
It looks like a pretty generic "demotivator" in line with the others office-themed negative phrasings. This one covers the subject of "inner guilt".
However, it does have an uncanny resonance with Stanley's unusual circumstances.
I.e., Stanley could be literally torturing himself over something he had done (something connected to the blue lounge?). And the people (his colleagues? friends? his entire social circle?) are "holding back" by not being there in Stanley's world.
For a throwaway gag it rings too many bells with the protagonist's actual situation.
