Ofc you need Steam to play the game

As far as I know there are no exceptions to the rules that read: "If you buy any game on Steam, you need to download it through Steam and run it under Steam."

If you prefer to buy it somewhere else this article from late October says its only available to buy on Steam: http://www.reclaimyourgame.com/content.php/393-The-Stanley-Parable

As far as I know all games on Steam are protected by steam DLC, so you need steam. However it will work in offline mode after starting it once. So you need one time internet activation.

There are exceptions[steam.wikia.com], most of them are indie games. The Stanley Parable isn't one of them. I tried to start it without Steam client, it doesn't work.

There are actually plenty of games that work without steam (KenTWOu) posted a list :-)

Thanks for the answers guys. The reason I asked was because I am going to a camp with no easy internet access and wanted to know if its playable on my laptop. I think not now. :healthvial:
Just go to Offline Mode before you leave the house with your laptop, lol...
