Museum crash (spoilers)
While I admittedly didn't buy the game on Steam, I have it through the Epic Games store[i.imgur.com], so I still got it legally. Anyways, that's not the point. (Or, in true Stanley Parable fashion, it might as well just damn be. I dunno.)

The hallway to the immediate right of the colored levers (straight in front of Stanley in the screenshot above) always and unfailingly hangs my game. Whatever sound effect was playing gets looped, the controls become 100% unresponsive, I can't even open the Steam Overlay, and the only way out is to Alt+Tab out of the game and manually end the process. Tried posting on reddit, no one seems to have a solution to this, but someone did mention that this didn't happen to them in the Steam version.

I have zero clue if this is intentional (given the sort of game The Stanley Parable is, it might as well bloody be), but instinct tells me there's something genuinely screwy with my game.

Thoughts? Help? Any input is appreciated.

I can't help you as i'm also looking for the answer XD just wanted to let you know I'm also experiencing the same problem also receiving the game from the epic game store

So someone on reddit suggested lowering all graphics settings to minimum values, setting filtering to Bilinear and disabling V-Sync. I did that, and while the game did hang again, it only remained hung for a few seconds, then let me step into the room.

This room shows the first trailer published for the game in 2012, and in higher graphics settings it seems to have issues trying to load the video resource in time, which causes it to hang. But at least now there's a documented workaround to go inside. :B1:

Thank goodness for this post. I had this strange, funny but horrible feeling that I was being manipulated (I was). Funny and yet poignantly sad that I was not... p.s. this applies to the Steam version of the game as well...

I just played this for the first time and my game hanged there, too. I watched the rest of the ending on YouTube but I am very disappointed my experience ended there. It seems to be a well known issue, but 6 years on, I doubt it will ever get fixed. Thanks for posting and letting me know the game didn't ♥♥♥♥ with me in this way.

The issue seems to be weirdly related to system specs/performance, because as stated before, when I reduced all settings to minimum, the game still hung there, but only for a short time until it loaded the video resource for the trailer. TBH, you're not missing anything, but I still wanted to document a potential solution/workaround in my previous post for any future people that play this and get the same issue.

This was most likely not intentional, and the creators wouldn't have done that. It could be your computer not being able to handle whatever is being triggered when you enter the room. This also could be Epic Games Launcher, since I had never ran into the same problem on the Steam Version

After figuring out what was behind the point where my game was hanging I quickly realized it wasn't intentional. But as for my rig, I frankly doubt this is caused by my specs, because a 7200rpm HDD for games on a 3.2GHz 4-core i5 6500 with 16GB RAM and a 3GB GTX 1060 should have absolutely zero issues running a game released nine years ago, unless I'm missing something really, really big.

It might not have happened to YOU specifically, but this very thread has evidence that this HAS happened to other people in the Steam version. I frankly doubt this is limited to people who got the Epic version.

This is a four year old post I have the game on Epic. It used to be free. I had the same problem with the museum. My config can't be the cause of the problem because it's my PC config:

LAP: Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming
PROCi: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 8 Core 3.90 GHz
VGA: Asus GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 192bit LHR (ROG-STRIX-RTX3060-O12G-V2-GAMING)
RAM: HYPERX PREDATOR 2x16 GB DDR4 "32GB" 3200 MHz
HŰTÉS: Asus ROG 360 vízhűtéses processzorhűtő
HDD: WD GREEN 1TB + WD RED 4TB + Seagate BarraCuda 2TB
M.2 NVMe SSD: Samsung 500GB 970 Evo Plus + M.2 SSD Silicon Power XD80 256GB
SSD:SAMSUNG 870 QWO 1TB

However, it's not only in the museum that the game freezes. The game crashes even if you directly squeeze everything on the map (doors tools ) Then the Narrator tells you that you need more than 20 door openings to get an achievement. The narrator starts to direct you and Press this, go up to the desk then go to the printer. Here the narrator tells you to do it (press it) When you press it the game crashes. I haven't tried the Low graphics yet. I put the Hungarian dub on I thought it was causing the problem but if anyone else is having the same problem then the Hungarian dub is probably not the problem. Just wanted to note this here in case anyone else has experienced this error ...

I can confirm the bug is still here, and reproducible on Steamdeck, so it's also perfectly portable to proton :)

For what it's worth, this issue was from my experience in the original version of the game. I have zero clue whether this applies or not to the Unity-based remaster of the game.
