[Achievement Guide] Spectral Fist Specialist - A Definitive Build
This seems to be the definitive achievement that everyone struggles with.

So here is your definitive way to complete it.

This guide is exclusively focused on getting the achievement. You could do this a number of other ways, but this one here is your 100% "I'm sick of this achi I just want it done".

It 100% works.

Map:
Forgotten Viaduct w/ Agony

Class:
Sage w/ Archer Mark

Items:
Vision Crown
Blood Catcher
Wooden Ring
Copper Ring
Invocator's Grasp
Pace Setter
Defiant Plate

Oblivion Potion Use:
Channeling (Force)
Vitality (HP)
Metabolism (Regen)
Thick Hide (Defense)
Parry (Block)
Bulwark (lv10)
Pierce (Archer Weapon Trait - lv5+)
Spectral Fists - Force

Traits:
  • Make sure you take Dedication and Stance traits before attempting 3x Weapon Prof.
  • For Demonic Exchange you want (Damage > Force > Speed), but it doesn't really matter much. If it's annoying just take whatever to get rid of it.
  • For Ethereal (lv70) take anything that doesn't give you reduced damage on SF.
  • Phantom Needles traits don't matter, take anything. In fact, you don't want this to be particularly good. Avoid making this strong.
  • Take any Elemental Surge you feel like. It changes nothing.
  • You must have completed Spectral Fists Mastery III (10M dmg with SF) to unlock the Adaption trait. While it is possible to complete without it, I would still consider this trait critical to completion.

Timeline:
Start >> 24:30
  • Take Spectral Fists as first skill. Take Phantom Needles from second scroll.
  • Be stationary in middle of bridge as often as you can.
  • Auto aim is fine. You can control the fist if you want.
  • Periodically collect exp gems every 30s or so.
  • Take Swift Feet + LongFingers as your opening traits. (Always take these first)
  • Take Cunning + Ruthlessness + Area/Range thereafter. (Take these evenly together)
  • Do not chase any elites (esp those that fly around the perimeter) they aren't important. Just stay in the middle and farm exp.
  • When the 27:30 elite spawns, turn off auto aim and kill it asap so you can go back to being stationary.
  • When you take the lv24 III SF trait, pickup the Ground Pound upgrade.
  • Don't upgrade Phantom Needles, you don't care.
  • You should not have any oblivion potions left.
Summary:
By 24:30 you should have achieved all of the above list.
You should have approx 5500 dmg crits, with the occasional 10k over-crit.
Common mistakes are not using oblivion potions properly, and moving too much.

24:30 >> 20:00
  • You really should not have to move much by this point. Stuff either dies or gets knocked-back by Ground Pound.
  • Continue being stationary and collecting exp every 30-60s.
  • Your trait priority hasn't changed, but you should begin picking up the crit traits if you haven't already.
  • After your VI trait, take the Spectral Grasp upgrade, or don't. It doesn't matter.
  • You still do not care about Phantom Needles.
Summary:
By 20:00 you should be level 55+. Though anything above 50 should be fine.
Your Spectral Fist should be doing almost 20k every hit.
Common mistake here are incorrectly using your Strong Wine. You want to make sure you use some of these to grab the 2x and 3x Weapon Prof tiers, before the next one unlocks.

20:00 >> 16:00
  • The statues can be annoying. They require you to hit them 20 times before they disappear. Turn off auto attack and move such that they all gather on one side of you then keep the first going through all of them. Remember they won't move if you are looking at them. So face one side only and dodge the ones behind you and they zip past.
  • You just want levels here. So be stationary in the middle as much as you can and grab that exp.
  • You should have ZERO trouble being totally stationary. You don't need to move for anything except the occasional projectile that might come your way.
Summary:
By 16:00 you should be level 65+. Though 60+ would be ok.
Your Spectral Fists is now doing about 30k+ every hit.
All you have to do now, is just wait it out until you hit enough things to earn the achievement.

The guide ends here. You only need to do 25k dmg and hit 500 things with it. If you take this build to completion you will be doing well over 100k a hit. SF literally kills everything in its path.

As the screen shots throughout demonstrate. I never upgraded Phantom Needles. I did not take a second SF upgrade, and I did not open any chests. I did not even take extra scrolls for EXP. It just works.

If anyone has questions I'm happy to answer them.

I already got this Quest on my own, using a different guide as an outline. However, I just want to say thank you for posting this and doing such a great write up.

I like how you made loose timestamp goals and specified exactly what to use potions on, what items to use, what traits to ignore or focus on etc. A lot of the other guides I've seen related to the Specialist Quests have been, IMO, too vague or not crystal clear with what to get/use. (Not to mention outdated) So I greatly appreciate when someone takes the time to explicitly state things or make it crystal clear what to do/get, leaving little ambiguity. Thanks again!

Thank you for this guide! Well written and easy to follow
I managed to get both SF specialty and the 100M dmg with it!

Would you say this is also a good build to achieve agony IV on chamber of dissonance ?

It probably can, but I wouldn't call it good. Viaduct is great for this because enemies only come at you from 2 sides, this helps SF get a lot of value because it punches through more enemies than usual and knocks back those that survive. What's more a lot enemies don't actively try and walk into you, so you have a lot of space/time to build up exclusively for SF (which is very slow to attack). Whereas in Chambers they will come at you from all sides, and every enemy will try and walk into you. This means that you will likely be forced to take another ability to cover the early game. So your trait pool is diluted and it will steal kills from SF.

All that said, you could make it work, by taking (the now unlocked) Consecutive Punches upgrade and building in more multistrike and attack speed. This would give SF the coverage it needs to carry you solo in Chambers (you'll probably still be running a heap though). GLHF!

I admit this is the most annoying quest of them all.

Wow, Tazz got banned. Noticed that lots of people, especially if you criticize the game/game mechanics, will get arbitrarily banned. Real shameful behavior on the mods.

That aside, thanks for a spectacular guide!

Thanks for the kind words about the guide! ♥

It wasn't related to the game/game mechanics, just my own poor choice of words. The devs weren't out of line with banning me. I'm only human and, like anyone, I can be careless with the things I say. They decided I needed to be reminded to take more care with my words, especially since I'm so active here. So they saw fit to grant me a 3 day vacation for reflection. I'm back now though.

My execution was far from perfect, but I still made it.
Thank you for the guide: Sage is the class I struggle the most =)

I'm confused to what upgrades I'm supposed to 2x. In the picture, it shows "Adaption" 3 and 6 but I never seem to get any adaption, let alone 3 and 6.

Have you completed the "Spectral Fists Mastery III" quest? This unlocks the Adaption traits.
