Orbital Shift - do the Orbs do more or less damage?

Astronomer's Orbs upgrade, Orbital Shift, says that the damage depends on the distance between you and the Obrs, but it doesn't say HOW it depends :-)

Is the damage weaker for the Orbs far away, as they are far away from you?
Is it the opposite, i.e. far away Orbs do more damage?

It would be nice, if game could be precise which one of this is true :-)
