Morning Star Specialist
Please explain to me like I am 5 what the hell should I do because I don't ♥♥♥**ng get it.

That quest description is so weirdly written that I would rather try go figure out how the most complex Path of Exile builds work, than try to decipher this.

Should I hit 1 enemy 100 times and do that 40x?
Should I hit 40 enemies with one morning star 100 times?

I have no clue

2 Steps to easily finish this achievement:

1. Stack up on multi hits
2. Use the "double attribute potion" on the "50% attack speed -200% damage (projectile). so you will hit with 0 damage and 20 seconds later viola! you are done.
Worked on caves. Thing is - I tried to hit 40 enemies more than 100 times each, and only ghost walls qulified, however achievement is most certainly (now proven for sure) is about hiting 40 enemies per swing 100 times. This is achieved by maxing following stats: Multistrike, Range, Area. Better be your only skill and hero gotta be melee, shield maiden is ideal pick I agree. Last detail: On levels that allow you to pick start angle and range - pick it with poition dobuling effect. Got it around 20 minutes into game with using weapon no other skills active.

I got that achievement by pure chance, here's what I used in case you need some help:

Character: Shieldmaiden. The shieldmaiden doesn't have a lot of DPS so your ball will hit a ton of enemies with each cast thanks to that.

What to pick: Anything that gives force

Pick any stage with MASSIVE amounts of enemies in agony mode. The Haunted Caverns were perfect for me. If you have the skills that make the Morning Star move in a butterfly pattern instead of just 8 it helps a ton. Multstrike can help too.

This was the one I was able to get it with, but really appreciate all the help and tips that u came up with here.

If you pick both Upgrades, you will have alot of Stars almost 360 around you, where the Chain can also hit. in the later waves you will hit so many enemies at once, it will be way more than 40 per cycle.
If you unsure if its enough, you can walk over to the Ghost Wall on Forgotten Viaduct and stand beside.
I did this, including double poting Chain on Viaduct with Agony while hugging the wall, still only got 20 procs. Would it not be better to minimize the amount of stars and instead focus on attack speed, chain length, and force (for duration)? Should probably take all the Ethereal Shifts that reduce damage so more enemies could clump up.

Went down this road again. Doubled all 3 Chain Traits
Banished Max HP, Regen, Defense, Block, Ethereal Shift A+B, both Proficient Stance Traits

Weapon Proficiency - Spread I-IV + Strenghten I-IV
Dedication - Focus Mind I-IV + Open Mind I-IV

Picked Butterfly Swing first, Spiked Chain second

Besides the slight two dead spots to the left and right, the entire field was covered and 40+ entities hit multiple times.

- started with Guiding Star and switched it for the first Uncommon Holy Relic

What might really can make problems is Forgotten Viaduct itself.
Enemies come in from both dead spots on either side,
so a run on Haunted Caverns Agony is probably easier due Monster Density,
they also come from all sides there.
