Purple is the new green.
It is not possible to retrieve it and only a buff for your current run.

I got purple gear before, but don't know the exact point when it activates because it doesn't tell you.

Starts to drop with 5 Artifacts quite frequent.
Wiki says with Agony 2+

Good to know this... just started getting them while I'm still trying to farm up green gear. I'll remove some so the purples don't get in the way.
