in general you understood the core:
Attack Speed > Faster Attacks
Multistrike > More Attacks
IMO Multistrike is most of the time superior to Attack Speed.
Yet alone by the fact it is harder to come by, but for various more reasons depending on the Build you use.
Here you can find a similar discussion, that isnt that old, which might give you some more input.

"+20% damage is the same DPS increase as +20% attack speed"
This statement, while true on the surface, is basically cherry-picking a single element from the broader concept of DPS.
The answer you are looking for lies in the interaction between different stats. Bonus damage and bonus attack speed are not actually equivalent bonuses because interact with each other. This means that the relative effectiveness of one bonus, on its related stat, depends on the effectiveness of the other bonus on its related stat. As one of these values increases over the other its relative value decreases.
The 'general' formula for DPS is damage * attack speed * multistrike.
This means that for optimal DPS you want to strike a balance between all the contributing stats. This doesn't mean you try and spread your bonuses out evenly, It means you should put your bonuses into the stat that is going to give you the biggest relative value.
Ultimately, getting optimal DPS is about doing maths to find the best outcome. If you don't want to math, that's ok. The game is perfectly playable without worry about it. Just have fun.
