as an example: Dedication has two Branches.
In case of the Swordsman
Dedication - Health
Dedication - Regeneration
If you now pick Health I, Regeneration I gets removed for this current Trait Tier, but will show up on the next.
So you will have then Health II and Regeneration II, where you can choose again.
I hope i got your question right.

some stuff like the weapon ones i always take multiple on most chars.
I believe youre right, but the way I read their verbiage it makes me feel like I'm throwing away a perk I already paid for.
I'm not fully clear on it but I thank you for the response.
If you pick one you will never see another dedication 1, but you can use the pot that saves a trait for later, if you reroll now the game favors that trait and you usually see 3-4 to choose, now you can lock those you want and pick them the next level ups.
That way you can stack up lots of defensive or attack traits.
For example each level of swordsman Proficient Strike Trait comes in these two forms A: Dexterity (melee attack speed and crit chance) and B: Reach (melee +range). You can only take one of them at level/rank I as the next time the trait appears its be rank II instead.
