Shield Maiden can't use spellcaster gloves

If you disable auto attack, Shield Maiden will still use Shield Bash automatically, which resets the gloves. Therefore, there is no way to use this item on her.

I'm honestly just not a fan of Spellcaster Gloves anyway. They encourage you to attack less - creating more openings - and using them optimally ...I mean it gives you an advantage, but it's not like it's MASSIVE. It's only one weapon.

Might catch my eye more if not firing your weapon also gave like half that bonus to your other spells.

??? The gloves give a dmg bonus to ALL your abilities that aren't main weapon. They are extremely strong, if you build around them. You sacrifice your main weapon, for a 66% boost to all your auto-fires. They don't affect your main weapon at all, besides giving you incentive to not use it.

OHHHHHHH! I thought it only applied to you main! It already did the thing I wanted it to do but better! Neat.

Maybe I didn't pay enough attention, but dev may want to update the description to convey that better.

They also make it much easier to get any of the higher damage ability achievements you might be missing, as well. I agree it could be worded a bit better, but I do think they noted they intend to expand on most item descriptions in the recent update post, so hopefully that should be taken care of soon.
