using transfixion and phantom needles, particularly if you have both their upgrades, requires no thoughts at all and creates a 10 meter dead zone around your character
My orb maxed early on with both ascended options already and 10 orbs total as warlock.
Check the dps difference between warlock main weapon and orb.
PS: I didnt use ghost wall to get unrealistic dps score

You can make every ability stupid op, Orb's weakspot is the range compared to other abilitys that reach out to screen edge or even further. Finding a good Synergie between abilitys is another thing, because the stal kills from each other.
For this Orbs + Radiant Aura can be pretty bonkers, Orbs for dmg, Aura for debuffing.
But experimenting around with all those is important and a lot of fun.

3x Bodies trait - double potion -> 6
60% projectiles - Invocator's Grasp +40% summons + 20% with multihit
+20% projectiles Archer - Weapon Proficiency IV Projectiles
9 + (9 x 0.8) = 16.2
Two rows with the upgrade 32 Orbs.
Edit:
With Hunter's Gloves(+30% projectiles) it would be 15.3, so also possible.
Well I was playing warlock who has the same bonus as archer with summons but the rest of the maths is correct :)
Archer plus Transfixion plus needles is just projectile heaven. Lots of crit. lots of piercing. Freakin clears like crazy.
You will be untouchable. Orbs shredding everything that comes to close.

When it comes to Astronomers Orbs, they're fun, too, but it takes a while to get there and i rarely get the +1 orb traits. And when i get those, in most cases my reverberant potions are already used up. T-T
