I'm not even playing d4 despite having the deluxe edition but I'm playing this
People are unhappy with D4
HoT looks like a completely different experience and a good one at that. Still, I'm glad to know that I shouldn't be expecting something like Diablo and people are just projecting their unrelated woes into misleading reviews. It shouldn't be news or a surprise that sometimes the simple and inexpensive things in life can be more fun than the big expensive ones. It's all about what kind of fun you're looking for in a given moment or period of life.
Endgame is a massively loaded and bogus term, but, for a game that can be beat in 20-25 hours, 450 hours is plenty of endgame content, to me. I would hate Diablo IV if I spent that much time in it, too. I'm glad you have moved on!
I also will say it seems like binge eating a bunch of steaks or too much ice cream. What do people think happens when consuming too much? Whereas these lite games like HoT and VS are more like binge eating popcorn.
I have 20 Minutes Till Dawn, so I can get HoT for $3.50. Definitely a good value for this type of game. But that doesn't mean it's comparable to Diablo IV. I certainly won't be expecting any of the things I look for in Diablo. And that will be okay for a few hours. I have less than nine hours into Vampire Survivors. Probably won't play this much more than that. Because apples and oranges... Or steaks and popcorn.
I am fascinated by the buzz around these kinds of games. I wonder if the trick with games like HoT and VS winning people's hearts is that you never realize they're pointless because they're relatively pointless from the beginning. I get that there's still game mechanics present but these are shallow and accessible games even when they go deep. I don't really believe in addiction, but there's an interesting psychology to all of this. Not that it matters. Fun is what matters. So, have fun whatever you're playing! I'm going to buy this and try it out. I'm positive I'll still feel it's off to compare it to Diablo IV. But who knows. Feel free to hunt me down and find out.
