Vertical black bars in 1920x1080 resolution

I am starting the game at a resolution of 1920x1080 and it does not cover the whole screen, but leaves black bars at the left and right side. So I have to choose 1600x1200 in order to avoid seeing those bars all the time.
Why does this happen? Is there a way I can fix it?

Is your monitor wide screen? because 1600x1200 is a 4:3 aspect ratio (not widescreen) resolution and 1920x1080 is 16:9 widescreen.

16:9 would have black bars on the top and bottom when viewed on a 4:3 or 16:10 monitor. I don't no why you would have black bars on the left and right though unless you were trying to view a 4:3 picture on a 16:9 or 16:10 screen.

Oh and a 16:10 resolution would also have black bars on the side if you were using a 16:9 monitor.

You should find out your monitor's native resolution and set the game to that.

No, I am talking about a 16:9 Full HD TV and the black bars are not on top and bottom of the screen, but on the left and right corner. Every other modern game I run is absolutely OK (btw, I know all about these things and the aspect ratios). So there must be a problem with the 16:9 game resolution, otherwise I cannot explain it...

I have the same problem. I'm running the game on a Mac with a native resolution of 2560x1440, and I have black bars on the left and on the right. Annoying.

The game appears not to have native support for 16:9 monitors, hence the black bars. I guess the engine for the game was built in a time where 16:9 monitors were uncommon. Either cope with that, set the monitor to fill the screen or complain to the developers and hope for a future patch that deals with this.

I've got them too. My resolution is 1366*768

The developers made an excuse about the original game being "old" and thus being designed for 1920x1200 only. This is a new game, they even added Steam Achievements, and STILL they have not gotten with the times and properly supported 1920x1080 which is the new standard! They have no more excuses. This company just doesn't listen. I would not support their games.

I just started playing and had no issues with the resolution for the other 2 games, i have a 1920x1080 normally. When picking that option and restarting the game, it's oddly stretched out, no top or bottom black bars, just right/left. And my mouse moves alot slower, like in molasses when moving it, not like computer lag, more like there's more surface area for the mouse to cover due to how the screen is stretched out.
