Stealing dragon's gold without opening the door

Using the knight to distract the dragon from the left side, I was able to steal the gold using the time traveler from the right. The problem is the game still told me that I forgot to close the door even though I never opened it in the first place. I guess this is a bug. I probably should have been able to do this in the first place :) Or is it possible to save the princess this way but it's bugged?
