Microphone volume very low after playing Rocksmith
Sup guys. I have seen some talk about mic problems after playing the game, but not this specific thing. After playing the game a couple of days back, I went on Skype to talk to a friend, but he couldn't hear me. If I yelled into the mic he could barely hear me. So the volume was basically too low.

I've tried changing the volume in the properties of the mic. Right now I'm using a 20+ dB boost to be able to be heared, but even then it's slightly less than okay. I've also tried uninstalling the drivers, restarting the computer and letting it reinstall them. I've checked if it's Skype or Discord's fault, but it isn't. The game changed some setting on my computer, and I can't fix it again.

Anyone else having this problem, or know how to fix it?

I'm also having this problem :'( my fix is just go to the properties of the mic and set the volume high again.

Same here, every damn time. I think it must be a windows issue not a RS2014 issue.

Well, if anything it's a Rocksmith issue with Windows, rather than Windows alone. No other application is causing this for me.

Any fix yet?

I just spent a couple hours ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around and figured this out....

Go in to: ....\steamapps\common\Rocksmith2014\Rocksmith.ini
Change this setting: RealToneCableOnly=1

It seems that this make the game only accept the RealTone Cable for input, and the plus side is that's the only input device it ♥♥♥♥♥ with when calibrating gain.

old thread is oooollllllld.

This is a common Windows quirk. It will reset the mic level to the default gain) usually 17 when you switch applications. unchecking the "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" might prevent that, but you may find other apps will have issues using the mic if you do that.

I've simply gotten into the habit of checking and adjusting the mic gain while the game loads and don't worry much about it beyond that.

FYI and pro-tip - RS will set a higher mic gain if your instruments input level (read, your volume knob" is set lower. but this can cause problems with note detection.

Thanks for doing nothing about a decade old issue
that's just what Rocksmith does, if you don't want it to do that use the gain override option and never calibrate.
