Low output volume
Rocksmith 2014's sound is very low. Even if I turn my volume to the max it sounds as loud as any other game on 25-50%. So it is not the issue that a lot of people had with their guitar input volume (the thing with the 17% which they fixed now), but the overall volume output of the game. I use an onboard sound card, but I guess a lot of people use it, so I'm guessing that's not the issue. What else could cause this problem?

I have this same problem. The game is so much more quieter than any other program.

Still found no solution for it, so can't help you :(

i have the same problem. I have been through my sound cards and as deep as you can go on a pc with no luck, it has to be a software issue. I have great loud sound until i load rocksmith. i think the software is useless when you can barely hear anything.

I alt tab out and set the rs cable up around 40ish. But the game resets it on next restart. Also when i fiddle witht he gain in the game, it just keeps giving me the screen to make noise and mute without changing anything, or it just goes back to default

Your onboard sound (while crappy imo) is not the issue. The output level of Rocksmith when in exclusive mode is lower, and I believe this is normal and expected. It's exactly the same on every PC I use Rocksmith on, regardless of what sound device they have (a ZXR in my main, a ZX in my living room media center, an X-Fi, which is now retired, and a laptop's onboard sound)

you can try turning off exclusive mode, but the real solution is to simply increase the volume of your speakers or headphones.

If you find that your speakers/headphone output amplitude is insufficient, then you need a better final stage output. That means more powerful speakers, better headphones or even a dedicated headphone amp.

(I recommend the cmoyBB 18V. It's what I use to drive my Sennheiser HD590's, and it kicks butt for a low price).

Don't worry about the input level of the Rocksmith cable. Rocksmith does not have ears, it does not "hear" like we do. The input level of your instrument will have absolutely zero effect on the output level, and it will not improve note detection or anything else silly like that. But turn it up too much and you will cause the input to clip, which can and likely will affect note detection.

Basically, let Rocksmith handle that and don't worry about it.

I'm going to bump this post almost 5 years later because I think it's an important issue, and it is definitely an issue.

The OP is talking about Rocksmith 2014 being quieter than everything else that is run on the PC even when 100% volume is set. This has bothered me, after buying some quality studio headphones that still didn't improve much. Running through an interface also which further drives the headphone drivers louder, but still not loud enough. So I downloaded Letasoft Sound Booster, tried the 14 day demo and purchased almost instantly because you can make it so loud, that you could hear the music from the headphones from the other side of the house lol. Just be very careful not to wreck your hearing because this can go to 500% louder than windows default.

I found a work around for this. Maybe it will work for someone else.

Before you start the game lower your output in windows to 50%. launch the game and you will notice rocksmith is running at the same audio it did at 100%. Raise your volume and you will notice the game audio increases much louder than it was before.

I think the game calibrates itself on start up depending on your output volume settings and adjusts everything accordingly. Hope this can help someone.

With Equalizer Apo they can increase the volume up to 20 decibels,
then turn down the volume of the guitar in the game so it doesn't sound so loud

Didn't work for me. Since I already have my volume at 50%, I lowered it to 10%, which would amount of doing the same. But when raising the volume, it was still lower than the rest of the windows sounds.

I just replaced my laptop and the speakers are not nearly as good. So now this same issue is much more prominent. I stumbled accross a possible solution just now which seems to have worked for me in Windows 11. In Windows to to System > Sound, then scroll down to advanced and click on more sound settings. select your output speakers and click properties. Now go to the Advanced tab and make sure the box is UNchecked beside Allow applciations to take exclusivce control of this device.

Doing this allowed my volume to be the same as all other windows applications and also to take advantage of sound booster application. Now the sound quality in Rocksmith was degraded somewhat, but the volume issue is corrected for me.

I really hope this works for everyone else!!

Good luck!

I've pretty much accepted this is how the game is. It's a pity, but well. I'll play it with an amplifier or big speaker when I can. A shame.
