Real tone cable doesn't work on Windows 10
Hello there.
I'm experiencing the issue with real tone cable, that PC doesn't want to be correctly recognized. The cable itself is in good condition, it works on my old laptop (Win7), where I can only tune my guitar, and it also worked on PS3 with first Rocksmith a while ago.
So, I read some threads about that issue on rocksmith forum, steam and reddit and I didn't find any 100% answers.
I've tried multiple USB 2.0 ports, changed microphone privacy settings in Windows 10, re-installed drivers each time I plugged cable in for one hour, but still I got error with "Code 10" each time.
From what I've understood, the best decision is to use USB Type-A to USB Type-C connector and USB Type-C port on PC, but unfortunately I don't have any Type-C ports.
So, does anyone knows anouther solution? Will be glad to hear it, thanks in advance for reply.

You're a lifesaver! That forum post had the fix for me. I had the microphone disabled for desktop apps. Thanks for posting this!

If anyone else wants to try the fix that worked for me, here is the path:

Path to the setting. Start Menu>Settings>Privacy>Microphone Turn on "Allow Apps to access your microphone".

Who said to use a type C port? As long as you have a USB 2.0/3.0 port in working order the cable should work.

Check this thread out maybe and see if the solution works for you: https://forums dot ubi
dot com/showthread.php/1459815-Real-Tone-Cable-Code-10-(Windows-10)

(replace dot with . - I did it that way in case Steam blocks the link)

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately, I disabled xHCI in BIOS and it didn't help.

UBI support answered on my question today with message, like "Rocksmith 2014 doesn't support Windows 10" and a link to System Requirements page (https://support dot ubi dot com/en-US/faqs/000018158). Then they told me two advices (re-install driver and change usb port), that I've already done by myself (and I told them about that, so the answer looks like a stupid placeholder), so I guess there's no chance to get some help from ubi support.

Ubisoft support is about as useful as your appendix. They're the type of company who releases a "remastered" version of a game which doesn't actually update support for the current PC OS. That said, it's running fine on Win 10 for me.

Like any IT help desk, they have the set things that they have to check first. Reboot, update drivers, try different port, do you have another pc to try.... etc... Those fix 90% of the problems and to do hard troubleshooting on those would require a helpdesk 10 times the size of what they have.. Then they can start digging for the more detailed issues for the ones left over..

I know it is irritating with those basic items, but you have to go through them to get the real help. They don't know from the start that you tried them.

Hey,

Please be sure to reply and let them know you've tried it (I know you initially did), so they can take the next steps to help you. Don't let your case get marked as solved.

Thanks

I responded ubi support, that I've done all they recommended me in the last mail. Their new advices were to use only USB 2.0 ports and to try out USB ports on motherboard. Issue is still not solved, waiting for their new advices.

I’ll just swoop in and lay down some (probably useless captain obvious) advice, but referring back to the power issue reply; I’d try testing it with any program other than RS to see if the PC will even recognize it at all first. But then I’d try unplugging every USB other than the cable to see if it really is a power issue. What size is your power supply? 700s are usually a best fit in my experience. If you got a 500, you ‘should’ be able to get it to work if you’re not juicing 50 other USB ports simultaneously. Anything lower than that wouldn’t surprise me at all to learn it can’t power a cable.

Also, USB ports do go bad. Try plugging it into other ports too, preferably the ones directly behind the MB.

I am having this same problem. tried all the bs same as you. rocksmith has had no problem playing on my old crap laptop, but i recently got a beefy new gaming desktop and was super stoked to play and stream rocksmith. and poof cable wont work with the new pc. really annoying. honestly my only hope to play it on the new pc is getting a powered usb hub with 2.0, will post if works when i get one.

Thank you for advices. My ports seem to work correctly. I've got 750W power supply and it's only 3 devices connected atm: mouse, keyboard and rocksmith cable. I also tried out all of USB 2.0 ports, including ones behind of motherboard.
The PC itself sees the cable (sometimes as "hocksmit" or just "Sound device", but sometimes correctly as "Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter"), but in "Device Manager" it's flagged with error "Code 10: This device cannot start". But as I told before: cable still works on another PC, and USB ports works correctly, so... I suppose it's kind of rocksmith drivers compatibilty with Win10 issue?

Meanwhile, ubi support once again told me, that RS isn't supported by Win10 and advised me to test it in Win7 compatibility mode (no, it didn't work out). And wished me good luck. Wowee, thank you, ubi support.

Well, not really a compatibility with Win10 issue. It works fine with me on my 3 laptops, and a surface. It is something specific with your system... The cable coming up as hocsmit or Usb Audio Device, or if it gives the code 10 error, which is a very general "something is wrong, but the computer does not know what" error. All of those just say "it did not install correctly".

I would get all of those, and then would have to unplug the cable and then plug it back in again a few times until it worked. I have not had the problem since I got a powered usb hub. If it does not see the cable, now I just power off the hub and power it back on and good to go.

So, I finally bought myself a powered usb 2.0 hub. And guess what - cable still doesn't work, with error code 10. Well it at least recognizes as "Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter".
