Any way to hear my guitar besides this game or an amp?
I ordered a guitar for the game, but I don't own an amp. Should I buy one for when I'm not playing, or are there other ways to hear your electric guitar?

connect your guitar to your pc using the usb cable or to your soundcard using a simple guitar cable (using a jack converter if necessary). Then use a vsti like Guitar Rig, Amplitube or GTR. Having a nice amp made for guitar will of course sound much better than your speakers whatever they are.

There is a "jam session" in game. If you are just starting out i wouldnt suggest an amp unless you can get one cheap when you have a free one in game with pedals too. Unless you plan to play away from the game then there is no need but you can also listen to your guitar through your PC as well. just go to properties on the RS usb adapter and click the listen/listen to this device box and you have an amp that way as well. hope this helps

Thanks guys! Waiting for my game and guitar to arrive from Best Buy. It's gonna feel like forever!

It's always good to have an amp but one is not required. I do most of my practice without using an amp as it can still be heard just fine.

I would see how you get on without one, then get one later if you feel you need it.

If you already have the cable, just go into the Recording Devices options in Windows itself and find the "Listen to this Device" check box for the Rocksmith cable.
Once that is selected you can hear your guitar without having to use any programs.

Another option is to install the ASIO4All drivers and get Riffworks T4 which is a free guitar studio program.

You can use the game as an amp if you want to without needing to play it (which makes the most sense if you plan to play thru your computer), or using the cable that came with Rocksmith you can play using freebie software like Riffworks T4. If you would like a practice amp (usually much more convenient than using a computer), most pawn shops have them REAL cheap (I picked up a Fender Frontman practice amp recently for $22 for example).

Well you can't use the game as an amp but you can use the game as a sound processor. :)

You will hear sound through whatever is connected to your computer. So for example, I have both my speaker and amp connected to my computer. When using DAWs, I route my guitar sound to my amp and the rest to my speakers.

There are two ways I do this. One is a Headphone amp, a little battery-operated thing you plug into your guitar, and then plug headphones into. Works well but eats through batteries quite quickly. Get the Vox branded ones.

The other way is much more expensive, but also much more flexible. Get an audio interface. Some of them are reasonable cheap, such as the Scarlett 2i2. Some, like the Scarlett 2i2, will benefit from a direct box. For that I use a Radial J48. This is because the Scarlett 2i2 just can't handle the hot signal from my guitar, so the direct box translates that into line-level input and everything works like a charm.

With the audio interface, you need software. I use Guitar Rig 5. It simulates all sorts of amps, mics, effects pedals, etc. Well worth it.
