[Solved] Crazy audio issue
Update: Fixed it by tweaking the .ini file as per Korky in the replies. Just thought I'd let people know in case someone else has the issue.

Hey guys

I am so excited to play the game but I have exhausted myself trying to get it to work!

I can't even tune the thing in game, all the values on the tuner stay at like +999 and it sounds horrible. Distorted and muddy and loud.

I've tried:
-swapping USB slots
-multiple guitars
-changing pickups / adjusting tone knobs
-using active and passive pickups
-I've got the rocksmith USB cable detected and drivers successfully installed
-im using analog headphones
-im using onboard sound
-playing away from electrical devices
-restarting my pc and rocksmith
-made sure the jack was all the way into the guitars
- given audio priorty to the cable and my headphones
-adjusted the sound quality in the sound manager for the cable and headphones

When I used windows sound recorder it sounds clear and normal so does that mean the cable is ok? I can't adjust audio options in game without passing this damn tutorial.

Ubisoft found it made sens not to support serious USB sound cards like a Focusrite or Delta or anything made to record a real guitar and other instruments. Use your cheapo Realtek with a wire to speakers ... go figure ... should work fine.

I have been chomping at the bit to start playing Rocksmith 2014. I too am unable to tune even after trying the suggestions (back away, different guitar, different usb, yada yada).

So I went back to Original Rocksmith and jammed out with both guitars for about 15minutes with no problems. The cable, USB port and guitars worked flawlessly in the original software.

There must be some configuration issue that needs to be tweaked for some people that I have not heard about yet.

Figured this out for me. Go to your steamapps location\Rocksmith2014\rocksmith.ini file. Change Win32UltraLowLatencyMode to 0. Then tune your latency buffer as low as you can and MaxOutputBufferSize in 256 increments as low as you can (like in Rocksmith 1). If MaxOutputBufferSize is 0, it seems to be automatic and introduces lag. My LatencyBuffer is set to 1 and MaxOutputBufferSize is 256 and there is very little lag.

Could not tune. Went to taskbar, speaker icon, clicked recording devices. Selected rocksmith cable. Go to levels and turn up the volume to greater than 75 percent. Fixed it for me.

Custompunk and Korky - thanks a million -- you're my heroes for the day!!!!

I am sure many users will have to tweak their system individually. Here is what I did and tuning started to work.
0) First backup your Rocksmith.ini file to make sure you have the original settings. I used notepad and saved the INI to a text file I called Rocksmith (Original).txt
1) I followed custompunk's tip and set my Rocksmith cable level to 80 (no effect)
2) Then per Korky I changed Win32UltraLowLatencyMode=0, LatencyBuffer=0 and MaxOutputBufferSize=256. I tested this and it did not work.
3) Then I rolled back the changes to only Win32UltraLowLatencyMode=0. That alone appears to make the tuning go from +999 (and wacky swings with muddled/distorted sounds) to being able to tune the guitar to standard. Note my other two settings were LatencyBuffer=4 and MaxOutputBufferSize=0.

I just went back in and I found that the Rocksmith Cable level was reset to 17. I double checked and both games work with the guitars as expected now. Hoorah!!!!

Hey guys, just wanted to update that I fixed it with Korky's suggestion with the .ini file tweak... and now it's working like a dream! Don't give up if you have an issue!

Every time I launch the game, my recording volume for the Realtone cable in the Windows Sound options is reset back to 17. I change it to 75 while in game, and it works fine. However, next time I launch the game it is reset back to 17.

Does anyone know of a fix for this, or is it just a bug that will hopefully get fixed?

Bug. Does it on my system as well, and a few other people have the same issue. I discovered it doing this almost right away because I am always tweaking my mic levels for other applications.

This is not a bug, did you use headphone or speaker with USB connection ? The usb device have much problem with Rocksmith 2014, if you change and use an analogical device (3,5 jack) you got 0 problem, i check the ubisoft site and i found this information, i've try to change ini file without success, with original ini file and headphone or speaker with 3,5 jack the all problem disappear !
Try it, hope that can help !
Do not change ini file, please share this information to anyone !
Take care !

I suddenly had the same sound issue after the Remastered update and after trying several suggestions without success, this one here is the trick that got rid of the issue for me. Thanks guys!

This is the answer. Switched from my focusrite usb6 audio interface to the realtek pc onboard driver and it worked. If you want it to still play out of your speakers, route from the front of your pc to your audio card input and you'll be fine. Rocksmith, Focusrite is too famous of a brand not to be supported, this is a guitar "real" guitar game right?
