Anyway, I just read there is some 3rd party software available to play this thing without their cable, but.....uh..why?
I can understand the cable's use as a cheap(ish) means to get the game working across all platforms and acessible to the average user, but that is no reason to force pc users to use that and only that if they've already got a better solution with their setup. In this case it's just a third(!) layer of DRM.
The game emulates the sound, that works best when you know what kind of sound comes in to proces it at best, so your (non RealTone) cable might sound less good in Rocksmith then it would in other options.
He's got an Mbox, he's been 3rd-layer DRM'd already by Digidesign, if it was Pro Tools 9 or lower.
