Question about cables
So anyway I decided to buy rocksmith 2014 today off of steam and went to guitar center to get the cable. Over the phone they said they had the cable. When I went there I forgot who I talked to over the phone and asked someone about it and they gave me this lightstrike cable. It has a driver CD and when I try to download the driver the wizard comes up with it being interupted before finishing the instalation and if I have windows try to figure out what it is, it tells me its a microphone.

That is what I have and once I get the driver to download correctly it should work.

You have to have a Rocksmith cable. Third-party cables do not work with the game.
Okay where did you buy your cable from?

You can get it from some game stores and maybe some music stores. Did you tell the people at guitar center it was for Rocksmith? Surprised someone didn't know unless they just figured you could use any usb cable.

Can also order online - gamestop, amazon, ebay...etc..etc. Just make sure it's just the cable so you're not buying the game again. Should be $25-30 (plus shipping if applicable)
I'm pretty sure they assumed that it would work with any guitar to PC cable. I've tried two game stops but they didn't have it seperately. It came with the rocksmith guitar. I'm going to take the cord back and see if they have the real thing if not Best Buy is literally next door. I'm really hoping either store will have it because I don't really want to order it online and wait but if I have to I guess I will lol.

FYI, for anyone looking to buy the cable...Amazon has last year's Rocksmith + cable (compatible with 2014) for Basically the same price as just the cable alone.
Nice tip dave-tx so for the price of the cable and the import tool you end up with alot more songs/content.

To play Rocksmith games you must have:

The Rocksmith REAL TONE cable.... (OR)

A "fixed" exe (easily found online) that bypasses the realtone cable and allows other input devices to be used.... I have the Lightsnake... and with a simple fixed file.... it works GREAT for Rocksmith 1.

However, the only no-cable "fix" out for Rocksmith2014 does not apply to USB devices yet... This "fix" has only been out a few days and only allows for a direct (6.5mm - 3.5mm) input into your mic(or line-in) port. It is imperfect as there is heavy squealing in the game. If you choose this option... be prepared... or just wait for the fix to get better.

------regarding Guitar Center-----
I find it horrendous that they do not even carry the game or cable... I saw youtube videos of people demo-ing the game at Guitar Centers.... but now all of a sudden I can't find ANYTHING rocksmith related in their stores or on their website....

(My speculation)...... Bandfuse is due out this month.. which is being headlined by "people" who are heavily in bed with Guitar Center.....
----------------

I live in the 4rth largest city in the US... and am surrounded by every major retailer in the world.... In the past few days ive been to SEVERAL (BestBuys, Gamestops, GuitarCenters, Walmarts, etc....)... They only thing on their shelves are new Rocksmith2014 copies. I'm not ready to drop $80 just yet... I will wait for the no-cable fix and use my damn Lightsnake.

In hindsight I should have just bought the game retail with cable and activated on STEAM afterward. Purchasing a game on STEAM that requires hardware is something I will not repeat.

**financial suggestion** Go buy yourselves a retail copy of Rocksmith1 (w/ cable) anywhere you can.. They have been selling for about $30... same as buying the cables alone on ebay/amazon/bestbuy websites.. You will end up with an extra copy of the RS1 and a RT cable....

...end of informative rant. :)

Last year's cable is the same as this years. Grab one off amazon.

... a few of us have now been able to use our own USB devices!

A fixed .exe is not out yet.. so I am manually fixing it each time I start the game... It takes about 15 seconds... The quality is not quite where I want it to be yet.. with some loud (hushhhh) sound, but its an amazing leap toward where we wanna be.

Finally... for those of us who use USB devices.. its nearly done. There is still one manual step to the process... but its only done once... after that its automated at game startup. Your USB device should then work flawlessly each time you play. :)
