Johnson Gutars
There's a Guitar shop on the way from where I work to my house, I purchased a Fender B-DEC 30 from them to use with my bass guitar. As I mentioned earlier, I have been looking to upgrade from my old Stratocaster.

As I was looking through their stock, the majority of their new guitars were Johnson.

What do you guys know about Johnson Guitars?

Here's some links...

I kind of like the Johnson, Las Vegas JH-440. I was think it was a possible canidate for my upgrade guitar.

Looks like a nice guitar.... don't know much about them so I went out to see if I could find reviews. From what I read the guitar has a sweet sound to it.... but expect to have to make a few small repairs to it right away.. One had an issue with the tuner, one the jack, one a small issue with the bridge.... no two people seemed to have the same problem... But each one that had a problem, once they fixed it they loved the sound of the guitar.

So, it looks like it might be worth buying.... if you have a little spare money to put into it after the purchase. Or, even better... sit down with it in the shop, plug it in... ask for a tuner... Tune it to D standard and play it... tune it back to E Standard... play it... and see if the store will repair any issues you find as part of the purchase.

And do a good look at all of the glue points to make sure nothing is off.

But like I said... this is off of reviews. not personal knowledge.

Thank you, Caldaar.... That's another reason I am leaning towards the Epiphone and Gibson. They come with a some support. I have rebuilt a couple of guitars. But, I don't want to buy one and have to start rebuilding it out of the box.

I would like to support the local shop... I'll ask em and see what they say. I read an article that said to check the country of construction. Supposedly, there are some made in the USA and they are reported to be better quality.

OK, I take it you have or have had one? Why is it a tuning nightmare?

I love archtop guitars. They're awesome, more versatile than people would expect, and the acoustic volume is nice. I've played a slew of archtop guitars for reviews or potential purchase, but the ones that constantly please me are the ones from Ibanez. Provided you don't go all the way to the bottom, their guitars sound and play WAY more expensive than they really are.

It's a really good guitar. REALLY good. And not that much more pricey than the guitar you linked to.

Hope this helps!

Hi Pappy, thank you. Thats a great suggestion. I have never owned a hollow body. I have heard them and loved the sound.

I'll check those out. I have listened to a few on U-Tube after reading your post. My Bass is an Ibanez, And, Good quality, sound, they feel good playing, and they didn't break the bank to purchase.

This is suppose to be a reward for Mastering a song... So, it maybe awhile before I can get it.

I don't know about that, Blitzkrieg Bop is a quick way to acomplish that goal! ;-)

Yes I do have one (Strat Style), the wood is very tempermental and sensitive to changes. I set mine up for a lower action and it just goes out of tune easy. I've used my 50s LP, Fender Jag and Fender Tele TL on this so far and they all work fine, though the constant check tuning is annoying at times, but it goes quick so I don't mind that.

Hey Pappy,

Well, I didn't pick that one as one of my four songs. LOL, that would be cheating, LOL, Humm

hgwmrnorm,

That is a nice looking guitar. Believe it or not, I did look at one like that one. I need to find a closer better stocked music store. To bad Rip has passed away. This guy had a nusic store down the street and it was wall to wall guitars.

I would like to try it out before I buy it for a change.
