New Song missions.
You know it was kind of confusing for me for awhile that it was asking for me to play one new song, when I have played all of the songs in the song list. I haven't seen it discussed in awhile, but searching and trying stuff, I found that the Practice Tracks on the lessons are considered Songs.

So, if you keep running into those missions, and have played all of the songs in your song list. Go play any lessons that show a 0% on them. They have practice sessions that will count. The ones that do not show a percentage, do not have practice sessions.

Yes, I had exactly the same issue :)
Also, there are a quite a few new songs that unlock along the way as one complete missions.

Ok, I have ran out of lessons.... and still got a Play 3 New songs mission... No unplayed songs... does Score Attack count?

I don't think Score Attack counts, and playing "bonus arrangements" doesn't seem to work either. I think it may be a bug in the game, or perhaps a low-handed way to get you to buy more DLC.

Ran into it again and played two bonus arrangements and it did count towards the play 2 new songs.

Yes, bonus arrangements count. I've been doing the same thing, because I've already played all of the songs once through (on Lead).
