Can I use any Usb to jack cable for this game?
So I've just bought the game and according to my friend the game requires rocksmith's realtone cable. As far as i can tell there is little difference between this cable and any other usb to jack cable. So my question, can I use any usb to jack cable for this or do i need to buy the overpriced "Realtone" cable?

Overpriced is a relative opinion. I'd gladly contribute to a cable fund just to not ever have to see this question again.

You might want to evaluate your friendship if you are so quick to disreguard his advice.

I disregard my friends' advice all the time... .Wait, maybe that's why they keep going away.

Or if you ignore your friends on a regular basis you could have read the big bold information on the purchase page:

Rocksmith® Real Tone Cable
The Rocksmith™ Real Tone Cable is not included with the purchase of Rocksmith® 2014 on Steam and must be purchased separately. Please see your local retailer or many online stores to purchase the Rocksmith® Real Tone Cable.

Rocksmith™ requires a unique 1/4"-t- USB cable, that is the first of its kind, which allows users to plug any real guitar with a quarter-inch jack directly into their console or PC.
Developed exclusively for Rocksmith™, this revolutionary cable turns the guitar's signal from analog to digital, allowing it to be recognized and played through video game consoles or PC for the first time.
The use of a second Rocksmith™ Real Tone Cable allows for simultaneous split-screen cooperative play while playing Rocksmith™.

Theres a little box at the usb end of the cable. That is the differance. If we can find out whats in it we would be good. But I'm not tearing mine apart . YET>

You need original cable. It's crappy, cause in Russia you need to spend 65+ dollars just to be in queue for it.

You do need the specific rocksmith one. When the origonal rocksmith came out I brough my 1/4" to usb cable to a friends who had the game to see if it worked. It doesn't :(. However any store ough version of the game usually comes with one and any Gamestop(If your in the USA) should have a ton on hand. Their website lists the cable for $29.99 The physical game with the cable is $79. Current steam price as of posting this $44.99. 45+30=75. Your only Saving 4 bucks by buying the game on sale and the cable seperate. And if you wait for the game to go off sale and buy the two seperate you end up paying $10 more. The only people saving on the steam version are people who own the origonal RS(2011) and don't need a cable.
