Requires UPLAY. Avoid.
Would make a negative recommendation if that didn't require installing + playing for 5 minutes.

So you didn't have to install it an sign up for an account?

"Don't even know I'm running it." == spyware,.

Why does everyone keep saying that ? I have never had a problem. Plus i dont think rs1 uses uplay only steam.

That's not an argument against privacy. Everyone has something to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hide. If you have a steam account you have a credit card. If you have nothing to hide, why don't you post your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ details here then?

This is just a warning for the many people for whom Uplay doesn't work. I'm sure many people will post "UPlay works fine for me". For many, it doesn't. Why take the gamble?

yes Uplay sucks, it made Splinter Cell Conviction completely unplayable for me. However, here you just have to sign in once, and then never bother with it again. you don't NEED to run Uplay every single time. Why pass on an awesome game/learning tool because of a single 5 min. account thing?

Boo Hoo... it uses UPlay... So don't get it. We don't care. Your loss on a great guitar learning tool.

I'm already so invested in Steam that I'm not much interested in other game store clients no matter what they are, but Uplay really isn't that bad now. The real problem with it was the original purpose in implementing Ubisoft's always-on DRM, so people have always associated it with being really crappy, but they've done a complete 180 on that in the past 18 months. I was a huge opponent of that junk, and even went so far as to harshly criticize it publicly on a gaming site I used to write for, give the games that used it really bad scores and whatnot, but I have to give them credit for finally coming around. They even have a few features Valve could learn from, including giving you points for achievements you can spend on small rewards such as extras (wallpapers, etc.) or in-game items.

In RS 2014, it's basically just a launcher that sits there in the background silently (if you disable their game overlay) and requires one extra click to close after you quit the game. Sometimes it has to update before it starts the game, but that's a mild inconvenience at most. In fact, switching over to offline mode should prevent that, too, but I'm liking the song leaderboards so I don't do that.

RS14 only requires a one time log in now. They removed that bloatware that was running alongside the game a patch ago. I would prefer that you didn't need a log-in though.

UPLAY may have been on of the big reasons we're stuck with DRM, but the fact is that we're stuck with it. Don't like it? Don't have the internet to handle it? Looks like it's time to find a new hobby. I've been gaming since before most of you were born. The idea of "micro purchasing" and DRM was unheard of. There were a lot more developers and the same ammount of pirates. Companies obviously made "good" money back then, but the big ones got greedy. So, like all other things in this world, boycott if it makes you feel good, but it will have ZERO effect on the gaming industry which is now focused on consoles.

In short: Get over it.

Absolutely. Uplay really doesn't take away from the game at all
