in my opinion, today's publishers/developers are so obsessed with anti-piracy-policies and their fear to loose revenue that they corrupt their own systems. what they don't understand is, that most people that really support piracy still know their ways to get their games illegally - because developing cracks is not a big deal ... never was :P
and because no one would buy their crap, if it needed a constant internet-connection, they use DRMs, but instead of relying on steam (that's not only a DRM but a great community, indie-supporter, update-source and support) they try to build up their own DRMs that don't work, run terribly, su*k as* and try to spy on us ... *cough* origin ... *cough* ^^
i'm not sure, but i guess that those video-game-magnates might hate to share their money with steam; i mean, hey, they are obviously p*ssed each and every time they have to program a pc-port for all their "wonderfully exclusively created" games and then they also need to cooperate with steam?! one can't simply demand that ...
this whole sh*t is profit-maximizing, nothing else. the era of video-game-developers with visions to create something completely new and uncomparable is long over ^^"
it's everyone's decision to support those vultures, or not *shrug*
interested in an example? try this one :D

I also managed to find a way to fix this :)
You need to register your game in U-play.
This is what worked for me:
- go into Steam and find the CD-key for Rocksmith and copy it to the clipboard.
- go in to Uplay and click on the cogwheel symbol in the top right hand corner of the window.
- select "Activate product" and paste (Ctrl+v) the CD-key in to the textbox. DO NOT CLICK OK OR PRESS ENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is where it all goes wrong :)
*** You need to remove the dashes (minus symbols or " - ") from the CD-Key!!!
for some reason U-play does not accept any symbols in Steam-CD-keys,don't ask me why,it just doesn't :P ***
- after removing the dashes, you may click "OK", U-play should then tell you that this key is for Rocksmith and ask you to make sure you are logged in to the correct account, because once you click OK again,it will bind the game permanently to that account.
After you have done these steps, you should start the game from U-play,and you should then be able to log in to your U-play account from inside Rocksmith. The game itself will then ask you for your CD-key again but you can just do Ctrl+v since it should still be in your clipboard :) no need to remove the dashes this time either.
Also,i have found that a similar method was needed to activate my Hawx 2 game, so although i am not sure, this might work for other games that use Steam and U-play!!
Hope this may help some of you who are having the same problems! :)
Also, if this worked for you, please confirm it here, so that it may help others!!!
Following your steps (removing the deshes ( - ) and putting in the Game Key from Steam I get this message on Uplay:
This CD Key of Activation Code is not valid. Please try again.
I do not know why this does not work, but it is very frustraiting.
But I just went into my Rocksmith game and was able to sign in without problems. Very strange.
Honestly, no I did not bother.
I could still play the game, and just couldnt be bothered to open a ticket, seems to have fixed itself now though...
that's the error message i was getting too.you should start Uplay, log in to your account and then ALWAYS start the game through Uplay with steam running and logged in in the background.that's what got it working for me,although i must admit it was a real pain to get it working right...
To verify that, just check that for each character pressed, a new star * is added.
