PC or Console
There probably already is a discussion for this, but right now I want to try out Rocksmith. And I've got 2 consoles, a decent laptop and a PS4. Which one is more worthwhile to buy. I'm not really thinking about the bugs or if my laptop meets the specs.

My only question about which one is more worthwhile is mainly on the topic of custom/fan-made songs. Are they worth it when buying it for PC and then going through the trouble of looking for a cord? Or should I stick to consoles? I just want to play Rocksmith because I've got a electric guitar just sitting there for nearly a decade. I don't want to let it just be a piece of junk there.

My preferernce is PC athough consoles would probably work just as well. Irregardless of which system you use, get your guiitar properly set up. That alone will enhance your experience. Good luck.

Rocksmith 2014 works on your pc? I hope it's a mac because is does not work on my win7 desktop pc. It crashes on startup and no one, including Ubisoft can help me fix the bug. I should have gone for console

I don't see any threads from you here in the Steam forums. We can try to help you, but we need you to post a thread with info about your system and configuration.

Short version:
PS4 = loads of lag! do not buy it :(
Windows version = Very playable. You'll have loads of fun.
Mac version = an absolute dream to play with no lag. The mostest fun!

Long version:
Right so i've been playing 20 years and I bought the PS4 version a week ago.

The PS4 version is at times unplayable. I've tried everything to cut the latency but you can damn well forget playing White Zombie or Everlong by the Foo's. Or anything with tight palm muting/timing for that matter.

The menus arn't helpful enough in getting you to calibrate your TV set. It would have been nice to have an interactive tool to could play in time with and then let it decide what the video/audio latency is then auto adjust for it.

The best results I had (and i tried all recommened ideas , inculding some of my own) was using heasphones plugged into the controller.
That way you don't hear yourself annd so the latency preception is reduced somewhat.

So I got the steam version and tried the Windows release on my iMac with the same cable I got from the PS4 version.
There is latency. i've made everything the same sample rate and set my audio interface to 64 samples (normally around 4-6ms latecy) but still there is a noticable lag. It is however much better than the PS4 version. Far more playable.

Then I tried the Mac version.
Thats where this story ends because there is no lag what so ever and for all I know I could be playing through Guitar Rig with real amp modelling.
It's an absolute joy to play this on the mac with amazing accuracy and zero latency.
Very happy indeed.

I read these, but none of them seem to be saying whether or not the fan-made/custom songs are really worth taking the time to download rs 2014 for pc and looking for a cord.

I haven't tried 2014 customs yet. But the RS 1 varied. Some were great, some not as much. I'm sure it is the same for 2014. So I'd say get 2014, learn the interface with the in game songs and add customs as you see fit. But also use session mode to learn to jam in different scales than you are used to. Some of the games are good as well.

Sorry you're having issues. It's a PC not a mac. There has to be a reason why the game fails to initialize and gain access to resources and hardware. Do you have any other games that exhibit similiar problems? Have you got another PC that you can try the game on?

In your situation, I would probably go with the PS4 version, but only because I assume you are using your console on a large TV and your laptop has a relatively smaller display.

I have the PC version. The screen can get quite busy on a difficult song and personally I don't think I could resolve the detail on anything much smaller than my 27" monitor.

If that isn't a big deal for you then I would listen to the other posters who have tried the other platforms and take head of their issues with lagginess (is that a word?) and load times.

Once I fixed the common bug with sound distortion (all down to not making your sound card exclusive to RS) it runs wonderfully on my machine, but then my machine is quite potent (i7, 16GB, SSD)

I suggest getting the PC version. I have it for PC and Xbox One and the Xbox freezes and hangs on me all of time. I moved over to PC and have very few problems. I have heard others say get the PC version if you are really intersted in DLCs.

I have PS3 and PC versions. PC all the way. Win7 system here, no issues. The same cord is used for all platforms and is available online from game retailers.
I don't use custom DLC so can't help you there, but there are threads about it here from time to time and many people seem to use it, though some songs cause issues apparently. I don't know if that is widespread. Using custom content may breach copyright for that content if it has a copyright.

You want the PC version and here is why:
There are options in the PC version dealing with controling sounds that that not in console versions.
THere is more CDLC content for PC version.
Your able to create or own CDLC content with the PC version.
I personally run my instument into my laptop using rocksmith as a preamp (to use lots of different tones) and out to my amp. Even when im playing in a band setting in real life, I like the custom tones and not having to spend a fortune on pedals to play with different sounds. Works well in rehearsal or jams but I would not do it on stage. If I nail down something I need then I get the hardware to make it so.:2014bass:

Another potential issue that I haven't seen covered is in order to use CDLC on an Xbox or PS4, you'll have to mod/jailbreak the console. No big deal if that's already done, but not everyone wants to/can do that.

As far as quality of CDLC, that can be hit or miss. I've found several that are played more than the standard songs cause they're good/fun, and I've also found duds that are not interesting/not what I expected. There have also been the odd ones that cause issues (creating CDLC is more art than science at times), but usually those get fixed by the author in time. Just remember to backup your profile occasionally (or use a junk profile for testing) and you shouldn't have any major issues.

What's the spec of the PC?

Mine is an old pos that now runs W8 but it also ran fine with W7.
Witchetty Dec 9, 2014 @ 6:12am
If it can run it on PC, then I'd definitely suggest getting it on that. Not to go all mustard race or anything, but unless you already have a setup for your TV, it's going to take some extra steps to ensure that the game runs with the least amount of input lag possible, which includes hooking up to (or even buying) a set of PC speakers.

That said, it's all up to you, I'm sure others have done a better job explaining it than me.
