Y-Cable Splitter
For some time I've been having a problem wiith heavy"fuzzy" audio coming out of my PC speakers when I strum. RS 2014, the game, plays fine. No problem with notes not being recognized. No lag.

I tried muttiple steps the resolve the issue. I figured my PC speakers just couldn't handle the output from the guitar.

Solution: At a local music store I picked up a mono Y-splitter with one male end to plug into the guitar and two female ends to plug in my practice amp and the RS Real Tone cable. In RS, 2014, drop the guitar sound to zero.

The setup has worked perfect for me and only set me back eight bucks.

Hopes this helps others with similiar issues.

Sounds like a good solution, I have been considering this but, what do you do about tones? Do you use your own effects/pedals or do you play everything clean?

I don't recommend the y-splitter, because it's easy to get into a situation where you get a lot of ground loop hum. But, if it works for you, great.

Yes, I agree, you'll lose the tones in the game but at my entry level, hearing myself clearly, and developing good chord speed and consistant strumming are my main focus. Experimenting with tones will come later.

I don't think you read the guide. Experimenting with tones isn't the point; although, it is one of the features that you can take advantage of in the future.

I went ahead and bought a Y-Splitter too, just for grins and giggles (cost $5 on ebay), I found that it worked perfectly for me too. I have a VOX Amp. I played some stuff but find that missing the tones and background music makes the whole experience a bit meh. It is good to hear myself playing and allow me to adjust my strumming and picking to a consistent sound but without the tones it's a bit weak. My AMP does have effects built in with different cabinets and pedals so now I am experimenting with the sound to see if I can get it to something I like. - I may find myself investing in a little drum machine ;-)

if the amplifier has a a mic input, you can get the rs tones by plugging into the cpu's headphone output.

I also got a drum machine for free - Hydrogen, it's pretty good for a freebie I am now working on building the drum patterns for some of the songs. - I'll check for a mic input but don't think I have one.

Check guitarbackingtrack.com before you spend a lot of time coming up with your own drum tracks.

Hey guys, I just use an a mini to 1/4 inch adapter and take the output from the sound card to my amp. There is no hum. You just have becareful not to get a feedback loop started.

Doing this way, I get the same sound out of the amp that I hear in my headphones.

Are you plugging it in to a Mic socket?

I use a Mini to 1/4 Inch and run that into the same input I would plug my guitar in. Start with everything turned down or off. Adjust the amp volume to about 4 or 3 and you are ready to go.

Interesting, I might give that a go. - I tried some of those backing tracks and they are pretty sweet too.

I use a DI-box with the output to the rocksmith cable. Ground lift gets rid of the ground loop.It drops signal to MIC levels, but the rocksmith calibration sorts that out. I run the main guitar signal through an Eleven Rack to mixer along with PC output then amplified output to PA. This sounds awesome, However, you have to configure the tones yourself through the Eleven Rack. The only thing I still need is a midi foot pedal board so I can control the Eleven Rack more easily while playing.
