Active Bass
I have a Peavey Millenium AC BXP 5 string, of which i'm a complete novice at and had hoped it would work with it but trying to tune it says its like 500-600 points above where it should be, although it was already tuned when i plugged it in.

Is there a way to use an Active Bass with Rocksmith (1 or 2014) ? Would, for instance, taking the batteries out help ? (its my first bass)

I'm more of a guitar player, but my active bass works fine with Rocksmith, it actually shouldn't make any difference unless your output is way too high and something clips internally, but Rocksmith should've properly calibrated that in the beginning (the make some noise screen)

500 to 600 cent above the B would be the E String .. are you plucking the strings in the proper order?

Have you tried setting Rocksmith to 4 Strings and skipping you low B string when tuning?

Edit: Make sure you don't accidently hit the string that's below your B string. Use your fretting hand to mute all other Strings except the low B when plucking it

Thats true, it didn't click, its trying to set up for 4 strings not 5 ....

I'll take it through the setting up screens again and see what happens. I take it there is no otion for 5 string bass, i've not seen one....?

>>>

Yeah, its still about 90 points out from where my electric guitar tuner put it but yeah Rocksmith seems happy enough with it now....

Its going to be interesting to relate the 4 string lessons to the 5 string but i shall crack on.

Thanks Elo'

As far as I know Rocksmith only has tabs for 4 string bass

But that's really not a problem, a lot of songs in the real world are written for 4 strings

Hi Corelian, I started playing Rocksmith 2014 on 12 Dec 2013. I found the Bass Emulator and decided to give the Bass Guitar a try.

I am not real sure what you mean when you say active vs passive. The reason I say that is that I don't think having a fifth string is and issue and I don't know if having a fifth string on your bass makes an active Bass....

When I decided to give the Bass a try, I got two. I got a Fender Bass and an Ibanez bass. The Fender is a classic style electric bBass. This is what I though was a passive bass. My Ibanez Bass is an acoustice bass. It has an onboard mic and pre-amp. Also, it has a built in tuner.

Would the preamp be considered an actice setup?

I switch between the Fender and the Ibanez and the Ibanez seems to work better for me. I have to turn down the volume on my preamp. Rocksmith complains that the fender doesnt put out enough volume. And, complains that the Ibanez is to loud...

I have been playing Bass Guitar on Rocksmith since December 28, 2014.... As far as I know , there is no problem with a preamp... Just adjust the gain on the cable device if you do not have a means to adjust at you instrument. I do not know if there is a special tuning for a five string over a four string, But, I would tune the lowest four strings as a four string bass and the fifth string I would tune on top my first four strings.

The reason.... Well, if you have a four string bass, that's standard and you can play everything Rocksmith has to offer. I have not found a note below my lowest string. However, on the high side... Well I have two songs hitting the 18 fret on my high string. If I had another string... It would give some cushion beyond my upper limit of fret 21.

If you are not tuning this way... Why not? What told you to tune differently?

Hi [I.R.] Dianetics, my Ibanez Acoustic Bass uses a battery and a pre-amp. So, it's an active bass? I don't think it has pickup though. I think it's just a mic?

Hey [I.R.] Dianetics, do you know how to tune a five or six string Bass Guitar? I know there are many ways to tune a regular guitar. But, until recently, I really didn't pay a lot of attention to Bass guitars. I just assumed they were all four strings.

I have this same exact bass, and I've not experienced any issues with it. I think Elo' nailed it with hitting the correct strings. Mine is BEADG, is this what yours is set to as well?

Make note, you'll never use the low B in Rocksmith.

Thank you all for the help, being totally new to the bass i was using my standard plug in guitar tuner to tune it, which does have an option between normal and bass tuning so i didn't realise there was a difference...

Also yes Elo' did get it right in that it hadn't clicked about the 5th string...

thanks all
