Cheap amp with line out/usb for Rocksmith without official cable?
Can someone recommend me an inexpensive amp that you can use to simultaneously output sound and act as a preamp (via line out) or sound interface (via usb) to play Rocksmith with, using the hack that lets you play without the Real Tone cable?

Would the Fender Mustang work? It has a USB interface. I'd just like to know if you can use it as an amp at the same time (so no lag), and have Rocksmith recognise it too. Or any other amp really, the cheaper the better (!!)

I was under the impression that this would require something like an ABY switch. That plus the cable = a fair amount more money to spend. If I have to spend that much more money, I'd rather spend it on a better quality amp that also has a USB interface or a line out (is what I'm thinking). The Mustang is meant to be pretty good, according to reviews?

Oh, yeah I meant a splitter. But it seems I shouldn't cheap out on one of those if I get one.

Thanks for your reply. I have some further questions then: when you say run audio out from my amp to Rocksmith, do you mean use the Rocksmith cable to connect my amp to the PC? In that case I assume you need an amp with instrument level output? Could you recommend me an inexpensive one?

Also, why don't you recommend the no cable hack?

Thanks for your help

You make a lot of sense, thanks for your advice. It wasn't too long, I found it very helpful :).

I'll consider just starting with just the cable as you suggest, and then perhaps adding a splitter and amp later, once I've more budget (and more of a clue).

Cheers.

As far as the question about the Fender Mustang Amp goes: I just purchased the IV v1 a couple nights ago and it's great. It does have that fizz sound occasionally but it's not that bad. The V2s have allegedly addressed it though. However I got the v1 IV for $10 more than the v2 III so I decided I could live with the slight fizz noise. They're very nice solid state amps though and they have a ton of options for tones! Especially if you take the time to learn the Fuse software. I haven't tried routing sound from Rocksmith to it yet though.

I've read the discussion above and you've skimmed the question that I have. I have a Fender Mustang I with the USB output. Do I still need the Realtone cable, or can I simply run a USB cable from the amp to the computer. It would seem to me that the amp USB is a digital output and since the Realtone cable is converting the analog signal from the guitar to digital I'm already there.

Noted. But will the USB cable work?
