New Guitar but I'm hearing static noise when plugged into Rocksmith. Is this normal?
^ title says all.

I don't hear static but rather a buzz/hum sometimes when not touching strings, then when I touch strings it goes away, that's a grounding or polarity issue but, should that be happening at all, I wouldn't think so.

What you're describing is my exact situation. A humm or buzz, something of that nature but like you, touching the strings or even the bridge stops the noise.

Does your guitar have single coil pickups or humbuckers? If they're single coil, then the noise you're hearing is normal, but annoying. You can look at a noise gate pedal to help reduce the noise, but you can't easily get rid of it completely.

I have two pickups. One is a lipstick pickup (solid chrome bar) other is also rectangular with rounded edges and has 3 metal studs on it's surface. Sorry, I'm still learning

Well, lipstick PUs are single coil, so they'll pick up a hum from electrical equipment(anything running on AC, really). Not sure on the PU with 3 studs, though.

What model guitar is it?

Is there a difference in hum if you select alternate pickups?

You don't need a pedal to solve this for Rocksmith, you just calibrate the game to ignore that baseline noise. When it tells you to mute the strings after you "make some noise," do so, but don't hold them. If you are touching the strings and silencing them completely, the game doesn't know the buzz is there and won't set the noise gate above it.

I haven't had much luck with the RS calibration in removing noise, but I keep forgetting that the feature even exists. I would definitely try this first.

I have an old Fender Stratocaster. If I crank the volume up to 10, I get the buzz. It doesn't matter if I am plugged into RS or an amp. If I back off the volume, the buzz will go away... Try backing off to between 8 and 9 on your volume. If the buzz goes away, recalibrate RS and don't increase your volume above that setting. I hope this helps out.

It's a Fender Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Special Electric Guitar (butterscotch blonde). And no, the hum is there regardless of selection. I'm going to try to recalibrate tomorrow using the above mentioned instructions. I'll keep y'all informed.

EDIT: I just realized the lever next to my volume/tone knobs is slightly bent towards the bridge. I'm certain I overlooked this at the store, could this affect the pickups in any way? I have a 2 yr warranty & I have the receipt from a week ago so I could get this fixed/replaced if need be.

Sure and turn up at the store only for them to say it's not a warranty issue as you bent it.
Warranty only covers factory defaults. This is not a factory default and even is it is there is no way you cold prove it.

But by the way. No this would/should not affect the pick-ups any way. (I presume what you are referring to is the pick-up selector (3 way) switch. )

Also make sure theres no Tesla coil lamp or dimmer lights where you play.

Sorry I mispoke. I meant 2 yr replacement plan, I bought this at Guitar center.

When you try to recalibrate it, set the pickups to both (middle position for your pickup selector). The Affinity Tele uses both pickups together as a humbucker to get rid of the hum.

This worked for me. Thanks so much, no more huming noise in the background.
