Realtone for other games?
So I've been wondering for a while if it was possible to use the input from the Guitar and Realtone cable for other games? Has anybody tried this? If it sends input to the PC, you should be able to map the input to buttons, right?
I'm not neccesarily asking if somebody has done this, I just want to know if it's possible.
(I'm dead set on using a Guitar to play a fighting game.)

the realtone cable turns up as an audio input, so you can use it with other software that uses audio input, but no - you won't be able to map notes to buttons to play a fighting game.
Cool idea though; it should be possible to make a guitar-input to game-controller driver that would work.

so...as long as we can find a way to change the audio input into digital input in real-time, and with very little latency, this could work?

I'm using AmpliTube 3 with Asio4All. Works fine.

I just had an epiphone about this...it may be possible with Voice Reco software and no Joy2Key...I'll have to do some testing when I get home from vacation.

Nice Freudian there, man, but I thought you meant to say epiphany, right? ;)

Isn't AmpliTube just for recording? Mind explaining how you got it to work?

Its a multi effect station for Windows and Mac OS X. It may run standalone, e. g. if you use it for a life performance. Or you use it as a plug in for a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation, i've never used this).

To get it run, i've installed ASIO4ALL. In the Audio setup of AmpliTube i selected ASIO4ALL as input device and USB Guitar Adapter for left and right channel. Furthermore i activated "Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter" as device in the ASIO4ALL settings which will appear in the system tray when AmpliTube is connected to ASIO4ALL.

Also, has anybody found anything out? I'm still trying to look into Joy2Key. Nothing yet though.

I don't have any money right now, so I'm just going to pelt these guys with questions. This device seems to work in conjunction with Joy2Key. I don't like the idea of having to spend a bunch of money for this, but whatever, I've never heard of a cheap hobby.

Oh, and do you mind sharing what it is you did with Joy2Key to get any kind of input at all? I may be able to fiddle with it some more.

So! I e-mailed the guy that makes the USBTrigger this:

I had a question about the USB Trigger. Does it accept Audio input? I've been trying to figure out a way to use a guitar for video games
(specifically fighting games) for a very long time. I heard that the trigger
works well with Joy2Key, so I think that all I need is for it to be able to
translate audio input (Specifically from a RealTone adapter) into some kind
of computer-legible input. Is this in any way possible?

And he responded with this:

The USB Trigger does not accept audio input directly. It requires a
digital (logic level or contact closure) to simulate a joystick or key press
on the computer. You would need another circuit/device to convert the tones
from your guitar into specific channels by frequency.

I'm gonna be frank here, I'm not sure what this means exactly.

mmhmm I see...
I'm serious about doing this, so I may put some time looking into DragonSpeak...

Edit: So apparently Windows(I know it's on Vista, not sure about 8) has a built in voice recognition thing. This may be useful.

Basically you just need to train the software to accept a specific tone or fret for a key you want it bound to.
Others guys developed such recognition: Email Guitar (YouTube) and Guitar String Detection (YouTube) and Triple Play (YouTube)

Not exactly a game, but the guitar cable works with perfectly with Smartmusic software which is great if you want to actually learn how to READ music. My wife is a music educator and she uses this software to assist teaching her band students. I liked it and suscribed myself. smartmusic dottcomm.
