does anyone else find this game confusing as all hell
I have been playing guitar since i was 16 I am 30 now and seen this on sale and thought what the hell. I did get 98% on Iron maidens the trooper but thats because i knew it already. Trying to learn a new song i simply dont get what the interface is trying to tell me. maybe i am stuck i my old ways but I think i will stick to learning songs via Guitar pro and by ear and use this when i want to jam on a song.

You're probably used to tablature. First thing you probably want to do is to invert the strings. It's somewhere in the settings menu (advanced? I can't remember). The low E string is represented by the red string in the game. By default this is the "top" string in the game, so it's the opposite of how you'd see it in tab. Inverting it should make things clearer for you.

Since you're familiar with it, load up The Trooper and go into Riff Tracker. This will allow you to play segments of the song. Choose a segment (or the whole thing) and slow it down. Play along and see what the game is telling you to play as you play it. This should help you out a lot.

There's also a guide in the "Guides" section here that will do a fine job of explaining the symbols.

It may take a bit but it's worth it. The fact that you got 98% means that your setup is good enough so you're over the (potentially) biggest hurdle.

Welcome to RS! We have a decent Steam community here with some helpful folks.

I donht think they could have made the interface any more confusing. The game should have a tab mode or something. its way more confusing then it really needs to be. i inverted the strings but still i really dont get what the devs where thinking with this interface, i really dont

I'd suggest going through some of the tutorials/"Rocksmith Recommends", they explain how the interface works so you know what the different symbols mean, and where they want you to have your hand placement. I totally understand what you mean though, I'm sure going from tab to this new format can be a helluva gear shift.

Interface is fine, you just need to get used to it. You can't possibly sight read tab in a game unless it's guaranteed 60 fps all the time. Look at how BandFuse already flopped. Anyway, I doubt the interface is any different than reading tab for the first time. You still figure out what to play first and only after that can you follow patterns in tab and such and play along. Slow it down, figure out what it is and you're on the same path already.

It takes a while to get used to. The tutorials and also the technique lessons are a good idea, you won't get blasted by a bunch of Smith/Murray notes while trying to figure out the ui :)

Its just easier to play by ear and use guitar pro then to try and sit here and figure out this conveluded confusing interface.

If you're used to once thing, fair enough. Like the other guys said, it takes time getting used to something new, but if you're not feeling stick to what you like. No ones forcing you to use the program.

Rocksmith is set up for muscle memory and is the opposite of tabs. When you're learning a song you're learning the movements and positionings you need to do to play the song correctly as opposed to learning the tablature for the song. While that is a great way to learn the songs in the long run it is somewhat detrimental. If you're already familiar with guitar it will take some time to get used to. I would suggest using session mode and getting the colors burnt into your head by running through scales. Other than that everyone above me has said just about anything that needs to be said. I will say that every time I pick up rocksmith I feel my abilities getting better. Try Satch Boogie and push yourself.

I am forcing myself almost because I paid for the thing plus the cable. at least it was on sale because if i would have paid 60$ PLus a cable for this I would have been pissed.

Make a new profile and lower the diffculty and check out the tutorial. Not sure what you mean by the interferace, you aren't being very detailed about it.

I've been playing guitar on and off for over 20 years. Yes, I agree perfect tab is easier to learn the notes/chords. Still, I really enjoy playing along to the songs in sections, slowly at first and then ramping up the speed until I hit about 80-85% at which point I add the next section etc. The enjoyment of that motivates me to play more. Add in session mode and dinking around with it as an amp modeler (I have a Line 6 XTLive but I still enjoy this) and it's worth it to me.

Ultimately for me, this game is an excellent motivator, both in terms of playing time and learning some different songs/styles than I might otherwise. If you don't need that, and have Guitar Pro and maybe a slow-downer app, then you probably don't need this.

If you wanna play along to tabs, try songs2see. I find that much harder than RS, but then I've played Guitar Hero and Rock Band for a long time.

thats the thing I hate this guitar hero style setup. IT makes learning a song much more diffuclt then it needs to be.

I've been reading tab for 25+ years. Yes, this takes some getting used to, but it really is more efficient than tab for a moving note track. Especially at full speed on a fast song with complicated parts.

I'll use Guitar Pro to learn individual parts of songs, by slowing it down and gradually increasing speed, but I don't find GP to work very well either at full speed on complicated, fast songs.

Better than TAB I reckon (I've been using TAB since 1980), and easier to remember, you will get used to it soon enough :D
