Is the Rocksmith Cable Required?
So I've read a few discussions about the Rocksmith cable, saying its needed to play. However, none of these people were using the equipment I am, so I wanted to ask again, is it the only way to play? I have the Alesis Multimix 4 USB mixing board, and I can use that to play and record my guitar through FL Studio and REAPER, which I do. I would have expected to then be able to use this through Rocksmith too, but it doesn't seem to be working, do I need to use a specific driver, or is the cable the only way?

Amazon.co.uk has RS1 with cable for 30 pounds. Not sure if that's a good price over there.

Edit:
go2games, which is over in the UK, has the cable for $14.99 (pounds) and RS1 steam key for $4.95. That's about as good as you'll see I think. iirc there's a thread on here about it, a couple people bought it from there. It's been that price for a while.

are there workarounds? yes
is the most accurate and easiest to use solution to buy the official rocksmith cord? yes (so much so I went out and bought a backup to be safe)

Dammit, I'm literally gonna have to wait a day to play this game, and also pay £20 for something worse than what I already own.

It's more for a support point of view rather than anything else, by only allowing one method of connection, there is alot less that can go wrong.

That's not true. Real Tone Cable is just a USB-Jack cable. There are plenty of those for 10bucks, they just sell their cable with specific drivers so the game only recognize this specific cable, then they put it on sale for x3 or x4 the price of a normal cable to get more money even being a very bad quality cable. When your fantastic Real Tone Cable gets broken due to no reinforcements next to the plug and filament bendings due to the movement of your guitar you will have to buy a new cable.

Great move Ubisoft.
That's good to know but I read about several users having problems with defective/damaged cables after only few weeks of usage.

Also, I have both cheap jack cables and proffesional jack cables for my guitar and I can tell that this Real Tone Cable is more like the cheap weak cables I have.

This shows how little you actually know. It is a USB Mic device that works on multiple platforms (PC, Xbox 360, and PS3) It is not just a USB jack cable. It works similarly to other guitar to usb adapters, but it is not the same.
It does not use specific drivers...it uses windows default mic drivers.
I have 2 RealTone Cables, and neither are broken damaged or shorting out. My first cable is 18 months old, and the second cable is 5 months old.

But this is what I mean about the difference between a proffesional cable and cheap&weak one:

Ubisoft revolutionary Real Tone cable seems to be like the cheap and weak one... (right)

Ubisoft covers the cable for 1 year I believe, so if you run into issues with it you can contact Ubisoft to get a replacement. However, if the cable is physically damaged it may not be covered under warranty.
Most users I know that had defective cables had them replaced fairly quickly...but I dont know the time frame off hand

So I used that Go2Games site and got Rocksmith 1 plus the cable for £20, so I'm glad about that!
so, Like some of you guys. I also didn't believe that a proprietary cable that all it did was to transfer sound from my guitar into the PC was the only cable of its kind. so I've done some digging and turned up this website.

I will post my findings when I get done doing the hack job. for I saved money getting this game on sale, thinking that I already had the equipment from a brother.

There is 'unofficial' cable fix that enables game without it. I do not reccomend it tho.

I agree. The steps to "fixing" this issue are pretty dodgy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpTZ0N69LsU. It is annoying that you have to use the "Rocksmith realtone cable" or nothing.

Both my connectors had to be replaced. Wasn't shorting out just a broken connection.

I am so sick of people coming on here and posting these topics. If you all know so much better why not go and do it your self.

And for once in your short pathetic little lives please use the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ search function. These topics come up over and over and over again.

No it isn't annoying at all.
It works just fine. So far from being annoying I'm happy with it.

how cute.

the store page said that a cable is required, yes. but not which kind. but seeing how I already own one. I do not see the need to getting a special cable just for one use when I can hack it.

Wishing you could use a different cable is fine and understandable. But your statement is kinda ridiculous. From the store page, seems pretty clear. Revolutionary? Nah. Required, yeah:

"The Rocksmith™ Real Tone Cable is not included with the purchase of Rocksmith® 2014 on Steam and must be purchased separately. Please see your local retailer or many online stores to purchase the Rocksmith® Real Tone Cable.

Rocksmith™ requires a unique 1/4"-t- USB cable, that is the first of its kind, which allows users to plug any real guitar with a quarter-inch jack directly into their console or PC.
Developed exclusively for Rocksmith™, this revolutionary cable turns the guitar's signal from analog to digital, allowing it to be recognized and played through video game consoles or PC for the first time."
