Is Rocksmith any good if you're an experienced guitarist?
Hey i was just wondering whether to get Rocksmith as i've already been playing guitar for 10+ years with bands and orchestra, is it only good if you are still kind of a novice? or can it still be fun?

First, I'm kind of a newbie here, but I think it can still be fun to play songs.
Also, since you're experienced, I think it will be fun looking at the leaderboards for attack score :D
Maybe skip the lessons (or do them for the missions and achievements).

The song's difficulty level updates while you play.

I just started playing and I had my buddy come over who has been playing for about 10 year come over. He started his profile and it took a bit for him to get used to but he started to really enjoy it once it started compensating for his skill level. He had to play for a hour or so before it really started challenging him.

Yeh I agree with him you can still have lots of fun and get better.

oh awesome i had no idea there were leaderboards, always thought there was a lack of competition in guitar so thats cool. if it keeps getting harder too it sounds worth it.

cheers people :D

I've been playing on and (mostly) off for 20 years or so. Learning songs is fun, you'll probably end up enjoying songs you've either never heard of or wouldn't expect to enjoy. The session mode is a lot of fun too. I find it a good way to encourage practicing.

It's on sale through amazon right now for $30 without the cord. Activates through steam as well.

I've been playing on and off for over 25 years, and Rocksmith is not only fun, but it has motivated me to play more than anything else I've ever done.

Wayy too overpriced. Get GTP or just learn by yourself. You never see people that use these programs achieve anything really in terms of professional guitar playing.

There are quite a few challenging songs for someone with more experience.

Anything that gives you motivation to play your instrument for hours (and enjoy that time) is a good thing for any skill level, I think.

Yes, it's fun, challenging and a motivator to play "more".

While I'll agree that this game will cost you a decent amount of money with DLC, I don't think that discredits it as a valid learning tool. It's true that if you want to play guitar professionally you will have to put a lot of effort into learning aspects that Rocksmith doesn't cover . An example would be song writing. However, Rocksmith isn't looking to make you a professional. It's looking to teach you to play the guitar along to popular songs. It also covers many techniques that you won't understand while trying to just follow a tab as a beginner. That being said, this topic was about if the game is any good for experienced guitarists. The game scores your playing and shows you what you need to work on. I think players of all skill get value out of that.

I'm an experienced guitar player. I'm not shredding, but I am good.

I stopped playing guitar after I decided I have to focus on my lessons and stop playing with my bands (I had two regular bands and I was 'guest' guitarist for a couple).

This game made me go back to playing. Fun? Yes. Anything new to learn? Probably not. Worth the money? Yes, for me.

Been playing since 1980 and still able to enjoy RS twenty hours or so per week. Plus you have two guitar parts (lead and rhythm) for many of the songs and bass is there too.
