Final Countdown - Can't buy unless own original Rocksmith yet is an option in RS2014???
I just saw in the song list on Rocksmith 2014 an option to add The Final Countdown by Europe to the game. It warns people that it was originally for Rocksmith but is fully compatible with Rocksmith 2014.

I went to buy it and Steam keeps coming up with transaction failed as it thinks I need original Rocksmith to use it. I've searched on Steam to see if they've just got the link wrong and to see if there is a 2014 version available but the only thing is comes up with is the original Rocksmith version.

Any chance someone at Steam could take a look at this and fix it please. I presume that all the other "Rocksmith DLC" that is compatible with Rocksmith 2014 on that list also has the same problem too?

I am so glad I own both versions and the conversion tool so I don't have to navigate through the minefield of what's compatible and what's not.

I'm so glad that you also know how to use the search function :)

Thanks for the reply - saw that message but it's back in April - so they've not bothered fixing it from April to July!!! That's ridiculous. I notice the solution is to BUY original rocksmith and then BUY rocksmith import tool and then buy track - I've got a feeling I know why Steam haven't fixed this problem and it's because they're cashing in on selling all this extra stuff to you that you shouldn't need, well stuff that I can live without learning The Final Countdown and Steam/Ubisoft can do without my £2.39 for each extra RS track I was going to purchase.

That's wrong. If you had searched the forum instead of complaining, you would know that you don't need the import tool to buy the DLC. *This* is ridiculous imo. BTW: how many games do you own, that allow you to purchase and play DLC from its predecessor? Let me guess... none except RS2014.This is a feature, that's pretty unique among games here. So stop complaining please. Use the feature or don't.

You only need the import tool to make the original RS songs available in RS2014 (it's really just a pack of all of the songs save a few re-worked for RS2014)

I've got a feeling I know why Steam haven't fixed this problem and it's because they're cashing in on selling all this extra stuff to you that you shouldn't need

Oh please with the conspiracy theories. If you had spent any time reading the massive amounts of threads about this already then you'd know that the cause is a Steam technical limitation with how it handles DLC. They HAVE fixed it for several songs, but unfortunately, not many others. No one really knows exactly why, but I seriously doubt that it's to "force" people to buy stuff. You're proving right now that doesn't really work.

well stuff that I can live without learning The Final Countdown and Steam/Ubisoft can do without my £2.39 for each extra RS track I was going to purchase.

Fine, don't buy it then. Exactly why do you think we should care?

I'm even more confused now with all these replies - from what I can gather what you are saying is that the ones that are on the list inside the game are supposed to be "fixed" for RS2014? Is that right?

So how can I tell which songs have been fixed. The ones I'm looking at state the following

"This song was licenced for the original Rocksmith. It is compatible with Rocksmith 2014. This content requires the latest version of Rocksmith 2014. Included arrangement will differ between the original Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014"

Does that mean they are the fixed tracks? and if so why am I still getting the message that they won't work from Steam - and if they're not fixed why have they included them in the list of available songs?

The two songs I looked at were The Final Countdown and The Offspring - Keep Them Seperated.

also btw - the "Why do you think we should care" - the comment about me not buying the extra rocksmith tracks wasn't aimed at the people on the discussion board it was aimed at Valve and Ubisoft who I assume will watch this board and probably don't want unhappy customers.

See my previous post.... then you don't have to worry about any of it. - The Import tool gives you access to all the RS1 original songs (bar 2 or 3). In the long run, if you like learning the guitar this way, just belly up to the bar and buy them :-)

Maybe you can help confirm somthing. I think maybe if you go to the shop in game. and find a song that is not in the 2014 list from the store page. that is from 2012 then it is fixed but i cant confirm this since I have both.BTW yes it sucks. Noone here is trying to be mean to you. Those of use that have been around here for a while are just as iritated about this as you are.
I really did'nt think there could be another way to post this problem that has'nt showed up before but you found one ;-)
Anyway do what you gotta do and welcome to RS2014.

:approve: to grimlog because we are at least able to use all the DLC even though its a pain in AZZZZ :2014pick:

BTW anyone know if it worked like it said it would on console versions?

"BTW anyone know if it worked like it said it would on console versions?" I can buy & download songs for RS2014 on my XBox 360 with a small amount of RS data in memory, but the RS data came with the RS2014 disc & was easy to install.

With certain exceptions ALL of the songs are compatible with RS2014. The cause of the problem is a Steam Technical issue, not a game issue.

So how can I tell which songs have been fixed. The ones I'm looking at state the following

You can't. There have been other threads on the forum about it, but I don't know if the lists are still accurate.

Does that mean they are the fixed tracks? and if so why am I still getting the message that they won't work from Steam - and if they're not fixed why have they included them in the list of available songs?

No, again the problem is a Steam Technical limitation, not a game or song compatib ility issue.

also btw - the "Why do you think we should care" - the comment about me not buying the extra rocksmith tracks wasn't aimed at the people on the discussion board it was aimed at Valve and Ubisoft who I assume will watch this board and probably don't want unhappy customers.

Don't assume, you know what they say about that. Yes devs are given the ability to read/moderate forums, but it's not a given that they are or will. If you want to talk to Steam and/or Ubisoft Red Storm, open a Steam support ticket or go to Ubi's own forums.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you are asking here, but songs are are cross platform compatible. You cannot transfer from console to PC version or vice versa, etc.

From what I understand, all the consoles work correctly and you can buy RS 1 DLC without owing RS 1. This is and has always been a steam issue. Apparently this is the only PC game that has DLC available as two different versions for two different games, but I think it messes with Steam because the app id for the song is the same in both games.

Installing original Rocksmith demo work around not work for that? Was a few threads claiming that worked for some things though can't remember what since I have both games. Worth a shot at least to see if it will trick the game to let you purchase it.

no that doesnt work. i tried that about a year ago,
TheKLF99 Jul 12, 2015 @ 8:25am
I went and bought Rocksmith - thankfully I found it on Allkeyshop and got it a lot cheaper than Steam wanted to sell it to me, so I didn't get screwed over even more by Steam/Ubisoft (already annoyed that after buying it I had to go and buy the cable even though I've got a top of the range Creative Labs X-Fi soundcard with all front inputs but it can't use that - and then I had to fix the ini file 'cos the sound was broken),

Actually it seems the song list on the original rocksmith is much better than 2014 but the "guitar note path" doesn't look as good though.

Btw just an idea I was thinking of which I'm wondering whether or not Steam have thought about this as a fix to allow people with both versions of Rocksmith to use DLC.

Create a new "title" in steam (maybe RSDLCFIX) which maybe just has a basic exe file attached to it (it doesn't need to do anything), and give that title free to everyone with both Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014, and then link all the DLC that can work with both to that one title.

So you'd have something like this

Rocksmith + RSDLCFIX
Rocksmith 2014 + RSDLCFIX

all DLC for both rocksmiths can only be bought if someone has RSDLCFIX in their list as everyone who has either game is given RSDLCFIX and Steam will only stop you purchasing the DLC if you don't own RSDLCFIX.

I'm guessing they might have already thought about that, but it does seem a simple fix.
