Yes. You should also get outside help. Some recommend a teacher. I at least think you should find a few youtube teachers to watch. Justin guitar on youtube has a complete beginners course that is a great suppliment to the game.

Just realize that it will take time and effort to learn. For this game, the guitar is like a brand new kind of game controller with hundreds of new buttons to learn. At first your fingers will hurt until you build up callouses. You will get frustrated from time to time that your fingers just won't work like you want them to. But, this is a great tool. I have progressed on guitar farther in 2 years than the previous 30 messing with tabs. But don't expect it to be easy, it is just easier than the tradtitional way to learn. But you have to put in the time. At your age, once you get callouses, I would recommend two hours a day of playing guitar either on the game or doing something else. The more time per day you spend on it, the faster you will get good.

I'm almost 16 and I started playing guitar in January with Rocksmith :) It actually works well if you really want to learn. But you should imo, after playing around a little in Rocksmith, also learn the basics of music theory, sign up for a "real musicians community" (It's worth it) and.... have fun :D Also you will be able to figure out really much by yourself if you understand how every part of your guitar works. --- Bla bla... Just do it! Play the game and start to understand :D

We need some little feat. As their song old folks boogie says, "You know you're over the hill, when your mind makes a promise your body can't fill. Old folks boogie, boogie they will." And I would really love the song spanish moon. "There's hookers and hustlers and bad cocaine, the poison will get you just the same. And if that, that don't kill you soon, the women will down at the spanish moon." I'm not quite as sure of those lyrics.

I wish I had had this game when I was 16....

Now I'm 28, and I started playing a year and a half ago. I can play lots of songs up to 90% on the rythm track and even some solo tracks quite good (the easier ones). You can really learn to play with RS, but you'll need to play EVERYday if you can. It's better to play 20 minutes everyday than 4 hours every other week.

Also try to learn some music theory on the internet as GR Rotstift-Division said (this I don't do and I am starting to notice that I can play the songs in the game but have lots of trouble when trying to make anything of my own).

Rock hard!

I wish I was still even close to 28.

You and me both. I am afraid that 58 is in my taillights, but at least they came out with RS before I died.

Learning any instrument and becoming profficient isn't about days, months and years - it's all about hours. Put in as many hours playing as you can from this day until forever. The more practice you do, the faster you will become good. One good thing about RS is that it makes you want to practice, it's a great motivator. As others have suggested, it's still a good idea to seek other sources of learning, too, but RS is a really useful guitar learning tool. I've been playing since 1980 and I can't get enough of RS.

It's great to see young people getting into guitar in this age of doof-doof electronica. Rock on young padawan. Rock on.

Yes you can. RS is very good in my opinion. The key however will be practice practice and practice. If i might suggest a free website that will help a great deal, check out justinguitar.com. Good luck.
