so ever since ive downloaded windows 10 i cant get rocksmith 10 to work.
this is how the chat went after i contacted ubisoft

"Martia W: Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Live Support. Please give me a moment to read your question, and I'll be with you shortly.
You: hello!
You: anyone there?
Martia W: Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Live Support. Please give me a moment to read your question, and I'll be with you shortly.
Martia W: This issue is almost always solved by changing the default audio playback to be DVD quality.

1. Navigate to Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Sound.
2. Highlight the default Playback device and select Properties.
3. On the Advanced tab, set the default format to be 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality).

You may need to restart your computer for these changes to take effect in game.
You: i have tried that already :(
Martia W: Please follow the steps below to properly configure your playback device.

1. Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Playback devices". 2. In the window that appears, right-click the default playback device and select "Configure Speakers". 3. Check to be sure that the Stereo option is selected. 4. While the default device is still selected, click on "Properties" at the bottom of the "Playback devices" window. 5. Go to the Advanced tab on the next window, and set the Default Format to 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality).

After completing these steps, check to see if the problem persists.

Please let me know if you have any further issues.
You: i have already done these things. the problem still persists
You: stereo is selected. amd im already on 16 bit 48000hz DVD quality
Martia W: In order to fully troubleshoot the problem that you are having, please try the steps below:

1. Disabling your background applications:

Go to the Start menu on your Desktop. If using Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8, press the Windows key and the letter R at the same time.
Type in MSCONFIG and press Enter.
Go to the Startup tab.
Click the option to Disable All.
Press Apply, then Close and pick the option to Restart.

2. Clearing your temporary files:

Go to the Start menu on your Desktop. If using Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8, press the Windows key and the letter R at the same time.
Type in %TEMP% and press Enter.
Go to Edit and Select All.
Go to File and Delete.

Note: If you are using Windows 7, you will need to press Ctrl + A together to highlight the files. Once the files are highlighted, you will need to press the Delete key.

3. Make sure the drivers for your video card, sound card, motherboard and processor are up-to-date. Running 2 cards in SLI or running 2 screens can also cause issues. Deactivate SLI or unplug any additional screens you may be using. If you are overclocking, try running at the stock clock settings.

4. Make sure that any antivirus or firewall software on your system is disabled.

5. Install Windows Updates:
Click on the Windows Start button and go to All Programs --> Windows Update. In the left pane, click "Check for updates" and if any are found choose "Install updates."
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/install-windows-updates

To troubleshoot this issue for you, I need two files from your system (Direct X and MS System Information). These files report information about system drivers for your video and sound cards, as well as other vital information about your computer hardware that will help me resolve your problem.

First, make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed on your system. Download the latest version of DirectX from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35.

After installing DirectX, follow these steps:

1. Open your Start menu and look for Run (Win XP), Start search (Win Vista), Search programs and files (Win 7), or Search (Win 8). You can also press the Windows key and the "R" key at the same time.
2. In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and click OK.
3. Once the DxDiag file is open, click on the "Save all information...” button.
4. Click the save button to save the file as a text file to your Desktop.
5. Open your Start menu and look for Run (Win XP), Start search (Win Vista), Search programs and files (Win 7), or Search (Win 8). You can also press the Windows key and the "R" key at the same time.
6. In the Open box, type "msinfo32" (without the quotes) and click OK.
7. When the program comes up, open the Software Environment section on the left side and select Windows Error Reporting.
8. Make sure that the Windows Error Reporting has also completely loaded prior to saving.
9. At the top, click on File. Then, click on Save.
10. Click the 'save' button to save the file as an .nfo file to your Desktop.
11. Click on the "My Questions" link at the top of this email.
12. Type in your Uplay login name and password and click Login. Click on [Case.subject] to find your incident.
13. Type a response in the "Results and/or Additional Information" section.
14. Click "Choose File" and find the "dxdiag.txt" you saved earlier and click Open.

If you receive an error when attempting to upload the MSINFO32 file stating that it is too large, you will need to compress it using either WinZip or WinRAR. Once received, we will examine your system info and get back to you as soon as we can with a possible solution to your problem.
Martia W: The PC Config Sticky is the best place for all PC sound issues.
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/802854-Rocksmith-2014-PC-Configuration-and-FAQ You can also find the RocksmithConfiguration.pdf in the game's default install folder:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Rocksmith2014
Martia W: First, check your “Audio Engine Settings” value in the game: Main Menu > Tools > Options > Audio Settings > Audio Engine Settings. Try a higher setting, like 3 or 4. See if using a slightly higher setting will get rid of the crackling.

Check the MaxOutputBufferSize value in the Rocksmith.INI file and make sure it’s set to 0. If that value is set to something other than 0, we trust you and we're capping the output buffer at that size. If it's set too low and your PC isn't keeping it full, you'll experience crackling.

Experiment with dialing back the video settings. If your framerate is too low, you might experience crackling.

Try setting "Win32UltraLowLatencyMode" value in the Rocksmith.INI file to 0. This will disable some of the new latency-reducing techniques we've added in Rocksmith 2014. It'll add a little latency, but may resolve your audio crackling.

Try setting the “ForceWDM” value in the Rocksmith.INI file to 1. This setting tells Rocksmith 2014 to use an older audio interface provided by Windows. If this is set, the audio settings for “Exclusive Mode”, “LatencyBuffer” and “MaxOutputBufferSize” will be ignored.

Rocksmith Audio Configuration
You should be able to adjust the most important audio settings inside Rocksmith 2014 itself. Settings pertaining to audio are found under Tools off the main menu. From there, select Options. This will open a submenu to let you change various system and game options. Choose Audio Settings to change your audio configuration.

In the Audio Settings menu, you have three settings you can adjust.

The first option is Microphone settings, which allows you to enable or disable your microphone for singing along with the game.

The second is Audio Engine Settings. This lets you adjust the size of one audio buffer the game uses. A smaller value will use a smaller buffer. Smaller buffers mean lower latency, but increase the demands on your PC to avoid audio crackling. Most recent high performance PC's can handle a setting of 2. The fastest PC's might be able to run reliably at 1.

The other setting you have access to is Audio Exclusivity. This switch will tell Rocksmith 2014 whether you want the game to grab exclusive access to your audio devices. In general, exclusive access will allow the game more control over audio settings and allow the audio to run better. However, you will not hear any other sounds while the game is running. Additionally, some other applications may need to be restarted before they will play sounds again. If you’re only playing the game, and can give exclusive access to Rocksmith 2014, set this to “On”. This is the default value. If you turn off Audio Exclusivity, you may need to increase the Audio Engine Settings value to get the best audio performance or to get rid of crackling.
Martia W: Once you have completed these steps you can go to the my questions link to update your ticket via email. You can end this live chat at any time.
You: im getting the feeling you just copy pasted every single audio faq you had cause you dont actually know..
You: because some of this isnt even related to my problem
You: actually most of it.
Martia W: These are basic troubleshooting steps you will need to attempt in order to continue there is are multiple things that could be causing this issue.
You: well i have done almost all of these things. except the ones related to crackling because well im not getting audio at alll so obviously there is no crackling
You: this all started after i downloaded windows 10
You: it worked fine before that
You: ive been working on this for a few days now before trying to contact ubi
Martia W: Windows 10 is not a supported operating system to run this game so the only thing I can do is report this issue to the development team for further review since you have attempted all troubleshooting steps.
You: umm well considering they gave windows 10 free to everybody. shouldnt this be something you guys are working on. considering that means every person with a PC has a useless game that doesnt work anymore. that or id like my money back
You: considering i just bought the thing 2 months ago and spent $120 on two cables
You: that are now apparently useless
Martia W: It takes our developers some time to test on all platforms. So at this time it is not supported. Please try running the game in Compatibility Mode to see if the issue persists.

1. Navigate to the executable file(s) for the game on the hard drive.

2. Right-click on the game's executable file(s) and select Properties. 3. On the Properties window, select the Compatibility tab. 4. Select the desired OS mode in the compatibility field. 5. Click Apply, then OK. 6. Launch the game by double left-clicking the executable file.

Please let me know if you have any further issues.
You: i actually had some hope for that solution. but it didnt work. id like my money back
Martia W: Hello, we do not provide returns. Only exchanges you may want to contact the retailer where you made your purchase.
You: i spent just under $200 for a game that no longer works because your techs didnt prepare for one of the largest updates in computing with over 2 months if not longer of notice?
You: look i understand that this isnt your fault in particular but i know for a fact im not the only one with this issue i also know that no one has posted a solution yet."

Chat was then closed by the ubi live support

So at this point im at a loss. basically oh your game doesnt work anymore? ♥♥♥♥♥♥ deal.

Disabling all other devices worked for me. Thank you
Since I just got this to work. Does this mean I have to disable all devices every time I want to play?
I'll mess around with this.
Thanks again!

What headset are using? Is it wired, USB or wireless. I have had problems for weeks after reinstalling this. It was driving me mad until I changed the compatibility mode to Win7.

I know in the past my old USB would not work with this and the only way around it was to plug it into the 3.5mm jack.
