Cables are sometimes cheaper but I haven't seen a good price in a long time. If you can find an old original verison of RS with the cable included you might get a good deal, but those are rare now too.

No one goes to the store and buys the box with the game and cable. Many donwload from stream and try to hack the game.
So since you can't hack the game, there is a higher demand for the cable alone than the box set.
So lets see:
1. you can go by the Game w/ Disk and Cable for $59.99 from GameStop
2. you can go buy the Game from Steam for $59.99 with out the Cable and $40.00 for the cable for a total of $100,00
So go buy the Game w/ Cable for $59.99 from GameStop and then use the code to unlock the Steam version for free. A savings of $40.00 and you get the cable.
or go find an original version of RS as metioned by Mukathren above.
Sorry about that. Just thought others would like to see themath.
I don't get people who complain about the stupid real tone cable. It's plainly stated ALL OVER THE PLACE that it's required for Rocksmith. Why do people buy the game and then complain afterwards about that? You knew what you were getting into.
Sorry to hear you lost it, but that's really no one's problem but your own. AFAIK the cable has always been ~$40USD, so if you got it for less, it was probably on sale, that was never the regular price.
It's already been explained NUMEROUS times why the Real tone cable is required and other interfaces are not supported.
The real trick is not to use the cable as a primary cable to the guitar. Get a regular guitar cable and a female-to-female 1/4 connector. Problem solved.
My RS Cable never moves. Litteraly plugged into the same port for about 3 years. Never a prolem.
