Harmonic heist?
Okay, so, I've been trying to play harmonic heist for a few days but can't even get past the first pedastal and i have no idea what the problem is. I don't think it's my technique since i can complete harmonics 101 and 102 with no problems at all. And i dont think its the equipment since,as I already stated, it registered my harmonics for the lessons. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?

since harmonics are on 7, 9,10,12 ish on the fret board, if your intonation is messed up it won't work. So here is a quick test. open the quick tuner, test your harmonics for standard e tuning on the harmonic at 12. It should match. If not intonation.

Second, you have to hit the harmonic cleanly the games are more senstive than the lessons.

I have about 1K hours and only 3mill on harmnics. There is a reason is it the most difficult game on the board. LOL

Keep at it you will get it figured.

thanks for the response,
I tried your test with the tuner and they ended being about 5-7 off would this difference be enough to stuff up my harmonics?
As for playing the harmonics clearly, I'm pretty sure that im playing them clear and loud as i can hear the clearly coming from guitar even when i have headphones on.

I would fine tune your tuning in the tools menu using the mini tuner. The games are more sensitive to being in tune. What do you mean you can't get past the first pedistal? In HH only harmonics used are on the 5th 7th and 12th frets if I remember right. I'm pretty sure you don't have to get the 9th fret harmonic. So you have to hit the harmonic on the string color indicated by the object on the pedistal. Assuming you get him moving to the first pedistal, once there you hit the harmonic for the next item. It helps if you mute the string between harmonics. Once he is moving, you can mute the current harmonic to get ready for the next guy. If your strings are really old or have a lot of gunk built up, that can also affect the detection of the harmonic.

I hope that helps, if not, please describe what is happening in more detail.

Basically, when i play the harmonic nothing happens in the game, the guy doesnt move. Even though the tuner can recognise the harmonics the game doesn't. I've just tried turning up the gain on the rocksmith cable and it seemed to register hamonics on the top 4 strings. Despite this the game would identify these harmonics as the wrong note. As for the b and e strings i can't the game to register any harmonic on them.

Could be as simple as re-calibrating.
Just a thought :D

Yep, he won't move if it thinks it is the wrong harmonic. Actually it sets off an alarm or a cage falls over the objecct or whatever. How long since you changed your stings? Old strings won't register as well. Also, did you fine tune your tuning using the mini tuner? You don't have many hours in the game, how do you do your harmonics? I generally lightly touch and pull my finger away as the harmonic sounds.

When you say your 5 to 7 off at the 12th fret, That means you show about a zero on the open string and 5 to 7 off at the 12th. That sounds OK. With harmonics, there can be many variables. It might register better if you change your pick location by an inch or so. If you happen to be picking at a node on the string, you can kill the harmonic or some of its overtones. Also, use the bridge pickup. But do try picking an inch or so farther from the bridge, that should make the harmonic ring out better.

This might be a silly question but are you sure you are playing the harmonic on the right string?

ok,
a) Got2bjokin i wish it was that simple:steamsad:
b) I last changed strings about 2 weeks ago
c) As for my harmonics I learnt how to play them in classical lessons about 2 years ago. What i do isi lightly touch my finger to the fret and lift my finger off when i play so it creates a bell sound. Pretty much the way you do it.
d) ian, if that was the case then i would be feeling very silly right now
I'm going to try switching to my acoustic in the mean time to see if that helps
thanks all

welp. swtiched to acoustic and no problems. I dont really know what the problem was to begin with but the acoustic solved it, maybe the harmonics had a chance to resonate? Anyway thanks to everyone who contributed to solving le issue!

You should be able to use an electric, that is what I use. I would try again and try different pickups, i.e. bridge, neck and combination. Also where you pick the string can affect the harmonic. But, I'm glad you were able to get the game to respond. BTW, you should use the mini tuner and see how the harmonic on the 12th compares to the open string on your acoustic. It may not be as far out.

A little FYI just in case: generally speaking, harmonics are better played using the bridge pickup. What pickup are you using? Also, I'm a bit curious about what electric guitar you use.

Don't forget to play the harmonic on top of the fretwire, not inside the fret. I had the same problem and realized that I was playing it wrong.
Are you actually touching the fret? You should only be barely touching the string itself directly over the fret as you remove your finger. Provided your technique is correct; one thing that has worked for me to get the achivements is to just tremelo the harmonic. Rocksmith can be REAL finnicky so I always just blast the note/chord in mini-games so that it will register. Same thing in star chords, I don't just strum once and hope it registers, I'll bang it out in 8th or 16th notes to make sure at least one time is registered. Also, to clarify one last time, these are natural harmonics "N.H." not artificial harmonics aka pinch harmonics "A.H.". Clean/new strings will always be much brighter and ring for longer as well. Pretty sure I got 10 mil+ on every single game and this is what has worked for me. Either way, good luck on your endeavors.
