Real Tone Cable suddenly 'not working'
I've been on Rocksmith 2014 for a few hours a day for the last few days, just went to start today and it says my cable isn;t plugged in! I always keep it plugged in to the same spot, have for months, now it doesn;t recognize it in any usb port, even after restarting my computer. Any suggestions most welcome.

Disconnect and reconnect the breakaway connector.

yep try that...it's happened to me. Also, just resetting the usb connector sometimes helps.

I've suddenly had this start happening to me too and have yet to find a solution. Keep getting error code 43. Thought it might be my cable so I used my backup and it gives the same error. Plugged both of them into my xbox and played rocksmith on there and they both worked. I'm lost.

Error 43 means that windows has stopped the device because it was misbehaving. Probably NOT a hardware fault, most likely the drivers are borked up and need to be reinstalled.

Unplug the rocksmith cable from the usb port.

hit winkey+r, type "cmd" in the run box. In the command box, type "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1", then "Start devmgmt.msc"

click "view" then "show hidden devices". Go through the entire tree and remove EVERYTHING that is greyed out, EXCEPT under the "non plug and play drivers" section. Leave all taht stuff alone. You can also ignore the volume shadow copies and storage volumes too.

Under "sound, vide and game controllers" you might see numerous rocksmith cables listed. that happens because you plugged in several different cables, or moved the port it was plugged into (every time you do that, windows treats it like it's a totally different device).
Leave any "Microsoft streaming whatever" stuff.

Next go to the USB section at the very bottom. Remove ALL generic USB Hub's, USB composite devices, USB Mass storage devices and USB root hubs. (greyed out or not)., then reboot.
You can optionally remove all of the usb controllers too, but that is not strictly necessary here.

This will force windows to redetect and reinstall all of the USB device tree's. Thereafter, you can plug your RS cable back in, and it ~should~ detect and install normally.
Once it's in and working, make sure you don't change the port you connect it to.

That's what it's designed to do. Break away if it's pulled.

Both of my cables work great on my older win7 PC, one or sometimes both disconnect every time my win 8.1 PC has the internet connected. I tried every possible fix i could find to no avail. I finally noticed a brief flash box in the upper left hand corner that said "Lenovo Auto Update" right before they disconnected last time. Each time I restore the PC back to the inital bare install the cables work fine for as long as I run RS2014, but either show up as an error 1, 10, or 43 in device manager if the game crashes overnight when left unattended. Currently both are connected fine today, except one shows as a "USB Audio" device and is listed as my microphone, while the other lists as an "Audio Endpoint" device using the same set of drivers from win 8.1 that I can't override. Registry values are the same as when they fail also?:summersun:
