Unplug the rocksmith cable from the usb port.
hit winkey+r, type "cmd" in the run box. In the command box, type "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1", then "Start devmgmt.msc"
click "view" then "show hidden devices". Go through the entire tree and remove EVERYTHING that is greyed out, EXCEPT under the "non plug and play drivers" section. Leave all taht stuff alone. You can also ignore the volume shadow copies and storage volumes too.
Under "sound, vide and game controllers" you might see numerous rocksmith cables listed. that happens because you plugged in several different cables, or moved the port it was plugged into (every time you do that, windows treats it like it's a totally different device).
Leave any "Microsoft streaming whatever" stuff.
Next go to the USB section at the very bottom. Remove ALL generic USB Hub's, USB composite devices, USB Mass storage devices and USB root hubs. (greyed out or not)., then reboot.
You can optionally remove all of the usb controllers too, but that is not strictly necessary here.
This will force windows to redetect and reinstall all of the USB device tree's. Thereafter, you can plug your RS cable back in, and it ~should~ detect and install normally.
Once it's in and working, make sure you don't change the port you connect it to.
Thanks, it worked!
