[SOLVED] Rocksmith Detects Cable But No Sound From the Guitar
I've been using Rocksmith for a month or so with few issues. PC with Windows 8.1 64-bit. Suddenly a couple of days ago, I encountered this problem, and haven't been able to get it to work since.
The cable is detected but, there's no sound from the guitar. I've checked volume knobs and all that stuff. I even tried a different guitar, and both guitars work with an amp. So, no guitar issues.
I've gotten it to work with both USB 2 & 3 in the past but, 2.0 has always been more reliable so, that's the one I use. Since the issue arose I haven't been able to get it to work on either.
Supposedly all drivers are up to date. According to the logs, it doesn't appear that Windows has installed some new USB driver that I'm not aware of so, I don't think anything has changed there.
The next logical guess would be the cable itself but, while I'm not ruling that out, I don't really believe that is the culprit for a couple of reasons. First, because sometimes when I'm on the tuning screen, there is no sound from the strings... it won't let me proceed past low E but, sometimes (not always) I can still see the animated sound waves coming from the amp when I strum. So, the cable is passing the signal on some level.
Second, I did get it to work once briefly after a full power cycle on the computer. But, then after a happy dance, I went to the other room to get a beer, and it wasn't working when I got back.
Just thought I'd see if anyone here had some ideas before I contact Ubisoft, which I expect to be a drawn out, irritating process.

EDIT: I dragged my XBox 360 out of the closet and tried the cable with the original version of Rocksmith... I had the same issue on that machine so, it looks like I have a bad cable, unfortunately. A couple of times when I've grabbed my guitar off the stand, I've gotten an ESD shock. It's possible static discharge killed my cable. Thanks for all your suggestions, anyway.

sometime that strain relief needs an unplug plug reset. If you are not directly plugging into the RS Cable, just tape the relief together. Have you also unplugged all the USB devices and then plugged in only the RS cable? Just a thought.

Good luck. Been a while since i messed with a PC.

I had some detection problems before as well. My issue however was that the cable jack in my guitar had unscrewed a little so the detection was off, but that was an easy fix. I would definately recommend checking the hardware on your guitar(s) (even though you said they work with amps, rocksmith can be a bit picky). Also give that cable a good check and potentially uninstall-reinstall the game just to make sure.

Good luck getting your stuff working!

Is it your default recording device? RS will sometimes listen to the wrong mic. Out side of RS you can use sound recorder or the option to monitor the device in the sound devices property settings to make sure sound is getting to the computer.
