Any fun beginner guitar solos out there?
Hey guys, my goal for 2016 has been to really push myself in learning to play the guitar, and so far rocksmith has been a big help. While I do enjoy playing the regular songs I'd really like to learn some easier/beginner guitar solos so I can shutup my friends (none of whom play instruments btw), who say "if you can't play van halen you're not a real guitarist."

The main solo I've been working on is Bat Country by Avenged Sevenfold, but I can't help but feel that I've bitten off more then I could chew with this one.

If anyone could please recommed some beginner level guitar solos I'd greatly appreciate it.

Sounds like you are into more metal type stuff with Bat Country. There is not really a shallow end on that pool, they are all pretty dang hard.

Now VH is not metal, so that opens up hair bands. Again, the more VH'ey type solos are going to be hard, but some of the Motley Crue and Bon Jovi stuff is not too bad.

Ya, forgot to mention the other solo I was working on was "wanted dead or alive" - bon jovi and it hasn't been too difficult. Just after learning the signature lick I've found the song to be rather boring.

btw I love almost all genres of rock (ie. classic, hard, hair, speed/power metalcore), the only genre I have a hard time listening too is death metal with bands such as lamb of god, but I'm slowly easing myself into it.

You'll not go wrong here. They are not hard and enjoyable songs http://store.steampowered.com/app/206130/

Sorry, what? Breaking the Law has no solo at all. Painkiller is anything, but not easy imo. Living after Midnight, ok, I can agree on that one :D Dio Holy Diver has a solo that is not too hard compared to A7X stuff. Maybe Disturbed and System Of A Down, though there's not much in the songs that could be called solo. One of the easiest solos imo is in Angela from the first RS. Black Keys stuff is not hard either, but they are not metal. Muse maybe?

Big Empty by Stone Temple Pilots. It uses a slide.

Just pick a song you like and learn to play at least 60%. Your friends will think you are great. Others will say you can't play no matter how good you really become.

Ya you're right, a few nights ago I played Monster by Skillet for one of my friends younger brothers (skillet is his fav band) and he just melted :steamhappy::steammocking:

Angela has a fun solo since there's a groove to it. I also recommend Space Ostrich which is basically just one giant solo that's enjoyable to listen to unlike a lot of solos which often get tedious after a while.

Everclear Father of mine, has a cool little solo in it, one of the first times I really started using riff repeator. Usally I like to play songs from all the way through, but song is kinda of simple and it got boring playing the whole thing over and over, just so I could get better at the solo, and its not like the song is hard. One step harder then the ramones song maybe.

Also no doubt don't speak has a solol I like in it, and its one of those ones I see people being able to do with a bit of effort, not like some of the solos, where the just still seeem years away before I can do them.

If you're trying to get down solo's note for note, any songs with a smaller solo section should do. Smoke on the Water comes to mind. That might not be the song you want since you may not want to show it off, but I tend to think of every song I learn, regardless what genre to be a building block towards getting as good as I can.

If you're trying to get the entire song down, don't forget that songs with intro's and outro's can tend to be small solo's within themselves. The fundamentals are necessary for each too, such as all those bends, hammer-ons, pull-offs, etc. That's why I suggest the small sections.

I used to do this myself trying to learn each solo exactly as it's played. Then when I played on stage in front of an audience and doing different songs, I found it hard to remember those solos note for note despite all my time and practice. You can't help but to get a bit tense, nervous, and maybe a bit loose from a couple of beers when you're performing.

This lead me back into going to an instructor to help me with my lead playing. After I started to learn the different scales and modes, it helped me to understand how each solo for different songs are constructed. This made it far easier, even when I'm still trying to play note for note. If I forget any part, I still know what key I'm in and can construct something on the fly over the part I'm having a brain fart about, until I get back to the area I recall. Sometimes it's also just fun to wander a bit from the original to show your own sense of what the song means to you.

I mention that latter part just in case it becomes an issue with you too so that you'll know where to go. Your memory might be superior to my own and you may not have the issues that I had. Best of luck on your goal. I hope you have a great year of success for your playing. :2014rhythm:
