Short scale bass - Note detection
I got a new Fender Squier Bronco Bass (short scale) that works fine with the songs I tried so far, but in the lesson 'Double Stops 101B' note detection is really wonky. Notes in this lesson are on D and G string up to the 14 fret. So what's causing this?

1. General problem of Rocksmith + short scale?
2. bad fretboard of this particular bass?

What I tried so far:
A) long scale bass (Yamaha RBX 170): lesson works without any problems.
B) precise tuning and checking of intonation: no change

My guess is on B), but I'm still unsure. When open stings are tuned right, notes on the first fret are already off by about 10 cent, at the 12th fret it's up to 40 cent. After setting up the bridge, it's the same for the first fret and lowered to 20 cent at the 12th fret. I can't adjust the bridge any further. Looks like a problem with the Nut, doesn't it?

So notes are off, but they are still the right notes. Why is note detection not working? Has anyone similar or contrary experience with scort scale basses? Any tips?

I' ll go with B. needs a set up
Most of the Squire guitars that come to me need the nut work.But it could be that the action is just to high.

action is pretty low, but I will see if I can lower it even futher. Thanks for the hint.

If this does not help, I will send it back and get another one. Maybe the Hagstrom HB4. I hope their basses are as swede as their guitars ;).

Tried to lower the action with no effect on note detection :(

I'm at my wits' end. Are there incompatibility problems between Rocksmith and single coil pickups?

... Oh, man! I don't even want to fix the bass, I just want to know what's the reasonf for this strange behaviour!

Some people have reported issues with single coils. I"ve been using singles pretty exclusivly and I don't notice a problem. Though thats a tele, not a bass.

Have you adjusted the truss rod? You might try a heavier or lighter gauge of strings as well. You should also be able to adjust the pickups height, but I kinda think that wont help much.

You can check your nut. Tune up the low E and fretting it on the first fret and see how far out the F note is.This is a real prominent on lower end bass's.
To help with the single coils tur up the real tone cable gain in the game.Ignore the messages it gives you to set it back to default.If it is to loud in the game you can adjust it in the mixer settings in the game.

The neck is straight, so I will not fiddle with the truss rod. I tried to adjust the volume, no luck here either.

10 cent between the open E and the F ... getting to 20cent on the 12th fret. I think the nut is at least a part of the problem, maybe in combination with the single coil.

I will solve this with another bass and get a refund for the Squier.

Nevertheless, thanks for the help, Kid Maetball and MTZIGG.

The first thing I would check for someone experience of poor response on the high frets

what do you mean by straight ? is the neck flat when its tune to pitch ? do you have fret buzz ? if this is the case you could need a truss rod adjustment or fret leveling.

@r714woodhead:
straight as in: when i press a sting down to the first and last fret, distance between the other frets and strings is minimal.
no fret buzz.

@tomasbergamn:
I already did a bridge setup, to no avail.

Thanks for your efforts, fellow rocksmithians, but I already surrendered ;)

Problem not solved, however discussion can be [CLOSED] now.
