to play the actual music you will need a guitar or bass guitar, you can't use your keyboard for that sorry mate

You could use a keyboard, but the game will only show a guitar/bass fretboard.

You'd have to figure out how to transpose the fretboard notes to keyboard notes ... on the fly.

The entire point of this game is to teach you to play guitar/bass. Playing on your keyboard defeats the point. You could just watch videos on youtube and randomly press buttons if you want to "play along on your keyboard"...

Yeah I'm afraid this isn't guitar hero haha, the whole purpose is you use a real guitar. If you don't have one and don't plan on getting one, you'll probably have to go for a refund :P
For the record, keyboardy guitar is frets on fire I think, I tried it once and didn't like it, but since it's got thousands of songs you might want to check it out

You should be able to use a keyboard as rcolesooner says, but the game will only display the fret string information on the screen. Middle C is the 20th fret on the red (6th string), 15th fret on the yellow (5th) string, 10th fret on the blue (4th) string, 5th fret on the orange (3rd) string and 1st fret on the green (2nd) string. Each fret is a semi tone step. So you can figure it out from there. You would likely need to learn songs in riff repeater at a very slow pace until you learned what notes to hit. Also the game itself says session mode is fine to play with other insturments including keyboards. In session mode, you would just need to know the scale and root note/key and you could jam with the band.

for ps4, I use the keyboard casio to play all the songs , for rhythm it is mostly the left hand you are using, the bass emulated (I only have 61 keys on my keyboard ) also is mostly the left hand at middle c and just below. only when playing lead do you really use the right hand past the middle c.. alas you can't use both hands , so for sometimes I move the keyboard over so i can play the rhythem with my right hand. it is necessary you know the guitar fretboard and where to put the notes on the keyboard. so it will register, and so when go to play the song you just skip the tuner. over 80 percent of the songs i can play. for songs like eb flat tuning you have to move the notes one halfstep down.

It looks like it may be coming to the upcoming subscription based Rocksmith+ though https://theriffrepeater.com/ubisoft-job-posting-confirms-piano-content-rocksmith-plus-subscription/
