Either way, it works great for me.
The Realtone cable simply was not designed for USB 3.0, that's all. Yes, it's faster, but that alone is not a guarantee of better performance because the RT cable simply does not need nor will it take advantage of that. USB 2.0 can transfer up to 60MB/s so it's more than fast enough for the RT cable's needs.
The USB 3.0 spec was only just designed in 2008, and was only JUST starting to appear on systems in 2011 when the first RS came out as noted here. This is probably one big reason why the RT cable was designed for USB 2.0, it was simply the best choice at the time. Then as I said, there was no reason to "upgrade" it to be compatible with USB 3.0 because that spec brought no benefits to the table for it.
...Wish they could support good old ASIO though. I'm not an expert in all this stuff but I have Line6 POD (although very old one), asio4all and a decent sound card that allow me to play through pod farm/guitar rig and mix with other synth software with no delay I can notice at all.
