Report a translation problem
I just went though this whole thing with an Shure SM58 and AD interface. Finally did the following. Here I my thread and look at RCOLE's link. It worked for me.

EDIT: Oh. Just finally noticed the part about "and solder on the A/D converter and id chip from a Rockband/Guitar hero USB microphone." So is this like the RealTone thing, where just because you have a mic, if it's not the RIGHT mic, it won't work? Maybe I just don't know enough about microphone tech to really follow these conversations...
Not to worry I didn't get it the first time either. Just go to a used game store and pick up a used rock band mike for about $10.00US. That's what I paid last saturday. The mike itself will work.
I also went back and tried using my edierol A-D system again, after learning a bit and it didn't work. You need that little converter/id think yes like the RS cable. But at least it's only about 10 USD.
