How is playing a Gibson Les Paul Standard for you?
I am pondering hard on buying a Gibson Les Paul Standard, so I get most of the good trimmings, compared to the Tribute. I really like the sound of a Gibson as well.

How is playing it compared to a Stratocaster? Any Gibson owners here?

Why does everything have to be cynical these days? This video is not helpful to anyone.
I have actually watched this video:

This dude is calm, has a lot of experience and explains everything in a calm and adult manner with no hyperbole.

To me a strat is more comfortable

Can you say why? I have had nothing but strats, but I haven't played for quite a while and got back into it recently with another cheap strat, because I wasn't sure I'd stick with it.

All I can say so far is that I love the sound of a Les Paul. It is warmer than a strat and not so screamy. I also regularly turn off the vol knob on my strat while playing :P.

strat body is much more comfortable and user friendly. the difference is in the way how your right hand rests on the body. LP body shape is different and not very friendly to your right hand. i play on both. in the end it´s up to you what you like and what you will get used to.

I have both ,
They are two very different instruments. From look to feel to sound so it will end up being a very personal choice. Most recently was a 2015 LesPaul studio, Comfort and weight wise I wish I would have gone with an SG.
To be honest If I had a chance at a complete do over.and had to go Gibson in to days world I would Get a epiphone LesPaul custom., love my buddies It is a work of art and quality,I have messed with Gibson standard at the store In my opinion they do not deserve the price tag.The epiphone is by far superior in quility, Just go at touch and play them yourself don't buy from the mail.I have no doubt you will understand.
Before the early 2000's this would not have been the case. As it is now Gibson and Fender's are nothing more then a Brand name now and get a big pass on quality.

Every time I play them they feel tight and smooth like a Cadillac. As far as playing goes, it'll be as clear as the weather we make... However, the bridge is always set uncomfortably from what set-ups I've played on etc.. Always a little higher than I'm use to. I admire many artist who play it. from Randy Rhoads to Buckethead. Those guys make it look like slicing butter... Anyway, I'm too poor to buy a les paul. It's a great guitar regardless, just adjust it until it's comfortable to you and sounds how you want it to sound.

I've always loved the narrow necks on the strat. Something about having one to switch to feels great besides the same old sound from whatever other guitars laying around. Many greats rocked these too. Always the trusted selected stead for blues riding. I use to have a purple one, baby cakes. Oh the memories..

Guitars are personal choices. You need to find one that you like, plays easy and works for your musical style. I play Fender Strats, Gibson Les Pauls, Telecasters, Jazzmaster and more. I have favorites and have learned how to use them all. Pick one and stick with it until you feel comfortable. That's about it. My Favorite changes from month to month btw. Today it's a strat, Next week maybe the Les Paul.

Super strat, or more specifically, an RG.

LPs are so smooth in their playing. it also has great looks. Strats are more comfortable tho because of its design, its like its hugging you. Theres also a significant weight change between the both.

I love my Gibson LP - see pic :D It's a Custom though. I'd probably go for an Epiphone LP Custom instead of a Gibson LP Standard. The Epis I played are all excellent. The others are correct in saying a Strat is more comfortable to play, the neck joint, the weight(!)... but I always liked the sound of Gibson guitars more than Fenders, less weight comes with a price imo. Another good choice would be a LTD EC-1000, LP-style, but modern setup. They play, sound and handle fantastic imo.

I am set on the sound, so its more or less Gibson. I could probably live with an Epiphone though.

When I feel the need for a new strat, I will take a look at Kiesel again, so thanks for pointing them out.

less paul vs strat have totatly different sounds,

A less paul tends to have more Bass sound on the neck pick up which is why most dont record more then 1 max 2 less pauls at a time.

I personally love my less paul but i also love my strat

I own an LP and an Explorer alongside my Stratocasters shaped guitars, all I can say is they're not suited for everyone or every tone. They are heavy, sound warmer/muddier, and are not well balanced (LP shape being the worst). Still I love them, using the LP for blues/rock and the Ex for thrash. However if I had to choose between a Les Paul and a Stratocaster, I'll go for the strat any time. Strats are way more confortable and balanced, lighter and brighter. To me a Strat is more versatile and polyvalent playing any genre.

Oh and bright tone is easily warmable with FX while warm tone is a pain to brighten with FX.

On a side note, if you're digging LP guitars, go for an Epiphone and not a Gibson. It's 2022, Epiphone guitars are absolutely great out of the box (after setup ofc) and can EASILY reach a Gibson Custom Shop sound if you swap the electronics / pickups and it'll still be way cheaper than the Gibson. I've seen up to $3000 Gibsons having bad paint jobs and cutting frets requiring a luthier to fix while all the 2015-2020 Epiphones I've played were perfect and sounded really good stock.

Ok, so I was a bit disheartend by this thread, but in the end, I bit the bullet and got this beauty: https://i.imgur.com/h1QyU9E.jpg

This is an Epiphone Les Paul Slash Signature Guitar with Vermillion Burst. It sounds awesome and plays really nice. What I noticed at once is that I am much more comfortable with the Paula than with a strat. I think the shorter neck is in my favor. I also find it easier to scale on it, in comparison to my strat, idk why eactly though.

Anyway, after the first 2 hours of play I am happy with it.

Yeah on the Les Paul. I have a Gibson Standard AAA quilted beauty. It's a blast to play, and I mostly play Strat's, Tele's, Jazzmasters. I really enjoy playing the Les Paul.
