SOLVED: RF Wireless WORKS - PC ONLY - Audio Technica ATH-M50xBT - And other wireless headsets for playing RS14?
PC GAMERS ONLY:

I want to use a wireless headset to play rocksmith. I have read a lot of online discussion that says mixed things, mostly that it is not possible.

I would like to hear from anyone who has used the Audio Technica ATH M50xBT (https://audio-technica.com.au/products/ath-m50xbt/). And I'm also interested in hearing from anyone who has actually used other wireless headsets to play RS14 on PC.

Please don't speak off the top of your head, if you have not actually used wireless headsets to play RC14, then you have nothing to add to this discussion.

Thank you for everyone who can contribute. I'm sure we'll all learn something from this discussion.

Have a nice day!

No Bluetooth. Nada, Never too much lag.

If you can find a gamer headset that uses RF then maybe. I gave away mine a while ago before RS so I never tried it.

Someone may be able to ring in.

I know it blows but a phono jack headset with a REALLY long wire or an extension cable is far preferable to using USB/RF/BT with RS. Direct connection is whats required as it removes a lot of uncertainties.

I appreciate those comments, it reiterates what is available to read in other discussions.

I'm really looking forward to hearing from players who have actually used BT or other wireless headphones to play RS14.

If you want play wirelessly there is only one way to really try to make it happen. You are going to need to get a wireless monitoring system like this: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Shure/PSM-300-Wireless-Personal-Monitoring-System-With-SE215-CL-Earphones.gc

it's the only type of system that will let you use wireless with RS and no lag. There are cheaper options as well. I am gong to pick one of these up in a couple of months, to use with my IEM's Then I will be 100% wireless and silent in the house. :)
Ik have tried a Sony BT wireless headphone, with no avail. Even tried IT with a separate BT module that I could plug in the headphone out jack, and then wireless to normal headphone, Just to get rid of the wires but RS did not accept it, giving error messages.
Nest I' m going tot try a RF system shorrly, if thát Will help me out

Christ jimmy! That escalated quickly :) To quote Weezer; "...say it ain't so..."!! I wouldn't baulk at the purchase if I was gigging or even at the playing level to sing for myself and serenade my apartment block from the hallowed hall that is my computer/guitar room. At that price it is worth the risk of trading in my other headphones on a chance AT ATHm50xBT purchase and seeing what happens for myself. If worst comes to worse I can use the new cans to play other games ...

TBH, I get a little ear stiffy when I think about shure gear, I think it is a super high quality brand. When my Sennheiser ear buds give out, I'm going to replace them with some Shure ones...

2eggs == yepperrs. escalation and GAS!!!!!!

This is the only solution I know of. There may be others. However I hang with lots of professional musicians and they don't skip on gear. However try to find a Gamer's headset that uses RF. I think you will be better off trying that first.

There is a monitor set that is about $300 and your supply the head gear.

look around for something like the sure system.

When I bought Rocksmith-12 in 2013, knowing nothing about potential problems using wireless headphones, i bought a cheap Thompson RF set that worked perfecly for a couple of years. Then they developed their own problems, e.g. a channel dropped out now and again.
When Rocksmith-14 appeared, I decided to upgrade my headset, and naively bought a Logitech G933, supposedly a top quality gamer headset that uses USB connection. The first problem, latency, was solved more or less, with an extension to the USB cable. The second problem, that their otherwise excellent sound, could deteriorate at any moment to become an eardrum bursting cacophony, was never solved.
I then read a post in this forum from someone (forgotten who) who claimed to be using a Sony RF headset wihout any problem. I bought the Sony MDR-RF895RK, and can make the same claim - good quality, good sound, and as yet, no latency or any other problem that I'm aware of.
Well. I have now tried a Philips RF Headphone SHC 8800/05 from a friend, the base connects in the headphone out of the PC, and then sends the signal to the wireless headphone, it works very good. No lag, crystal clear sound.

I have also tried my Sony Bluetooth headphone with an extra in between. A Bluetooth transmitter/receiver that I first plug with an audio cable in the Headphone out of my PC, make BT connection with the transmitter and the Headphone, and this also works.
But with some lag, and a slight buzzing sound in the background. While playing it is not much of a nuisance, but that could also be fault of the cheap transmitter (Silvercrest sold by LIdl Europe), or my older Sony Headphone.
I have tried it before with my radio to a speaker in an other room, and that gave good sound, no buzzing. Perhaps some lag, but on that point not much of a problem.
So perhaps with a better transmitter its still possible....????

I recently also bought a USB Microphone (Superlux, sold by Thomann.de) for my acoustic, and it has a headphone out on the Mic itself. I will give an update when I have tried that. Not sure if it will only output what the mic receives or if I can get the speakers sound.

G'day BIll and Cath,
This is why I wanted to call out players who have ACTUALLY used this technology, thank you for contributing! I am now going to look for the best RF headset I can find. Once I've made that purchase and tested it I'll report to this forum. You're both saviours 3> :2014rhythm::UT2004adrenaline::2014rhythm:

I just purchased a pair of these badboys:

https://en-au.sennheiser.com/rs-185

I didn't pay that price *swipes forehead*, I found an 'as new' pair on ebay for half that price. This makes them comparable with a ATH M50xBT purchase.

I'm hoping they will arrive early next week. I'll let you know how I go.

puzzlefox Mar 20, 2019 @ 8:45pm
I’d like to know how that goes too. I got RS up and running on my 70” tv through the magic of a 50ft VGA cable cause I couldn’t stand playing at my desk but the sound of the strings really overpowers the sounds from the game. A wireless headset would be perfect.
Paladin Mar 20, 2019 @ 8:53pm
you can mess with the mixer to change the volume of the guitar .vs. backing track...

Try moving the sliders around to a mix you like. Easy Peasy...
Happy to help 2eggsinahanky. Let us know how it works for you (down under ?? ;-).

@Puzzlefox, like Paladin says, you can use the mixer, I have this with some songs anyway. A headphone would not really make a difference in that since ALL the sound will go through the headset.
Or you mean the sound of the strings of the guitar itself, not the sound it produces in the game.....then a headset could indeed help out.

I play seated, but also on a TV in close proximity of the PC (with a HDMI cable), but the sound from that TV is not that good, so I keep the sound running through the PC speakers or headset.

I believe an RF set has quite a better range than for example a BT set. My friend uses the headset on the radio or music channel on TV and then goes working in the garden with the headset on. Thats more than 10 meters ( I think 50ft is 15 meters?) and a wall or two in between. I am away now, but I will see if I can try the set the next days, although my house is not that big that the TV and pc are so far away hahaha
